So my parents got a new XOS M1530 for Christmas and the problem has been there since then but it hasn't really started acting up until now.
What happens is that they connect wirelessly to a network but then oddly enough it disconnects itself for no apparent reason? It's not idling either, they're actively using it when it happens.
It's just very weird and quite frustrating and I was wondering if there are any settings I need to tweek or downloads I need to download for my parents?
I've heard about this problem with the SXPS 1640 but not really for the XPS M1530.
All help is appreciated)

I would make sure you have the latest driver from intel if it is intel, or dell if it is dell card. I know most computers do not come with the latest drivers. Most members will hesitate to respond without more info, ie wireless card, operating system, etc. Create a signature and everyone will know what you system you are working with. FYI only, not preaching.

Ahh thanks, sorry about that didn't know.
Well they're on Windows Vista 32-bit, 4 gigs of RAM (3 of which are in use), Intel T5800 @ 2.00 Ghz. Where can I see what the wireless card is?? Pretty sure it's a dell, but I'm not completely sure.
Thanks mate. -
Go into control panel and open device manager, expand network adapters and it will show you what card you have. right click the card and hit properties and under driver tab should show what driver version.
your very welcome, mate -
Apparently it's a Dell Wireless 1490 Dual Band WLAN Mini-Card Rev 8.3 with driver version 4.170.77.3
Hope that can help a bit. -
Just thinking outside the box for a second, are you sure it's the laptop?
1) Do you have any other wireless devices in the house on the same network and if so are they opperating without issue?
2) Do you have any other non-wifi equipment that uses radio signals, such as cordless phones or similar? Are they anywhere near the laptop or router?
3) Where is your router positioned in relation to the places where you're using the laptop?
4) Have you checked to make sure the router is working correctly?
(I've had problems with a certain router in the past where the wifi network dropped every so often for no apparent reason and took a while to get back up).
5) Have you used Netstumbler or Vistumbler to check what other wireless networks are broadcasting in your area that could potentially interfere with your network?
(Remembering that some channels overlap others and could cause you problems, which channels of course depends on where in the world you live).
I'm not saying it's not the laptop, however I thought I'd add that and see if you could add a few more bits of information to the thread in order for people to help you.

Uninstall the driver, reboot and hopefully Vista will install the correct driver afterwards.
