Drying with my notebook cooler (just a little clip on fan I clip to my desk/table while using my laptop that helps keep it VERY cool haha)

The matte black and shine of the invisibleshield contrasts very well

Fingerprint reader cutout lined up perfectly

    So did the touchpad

I ordered from Zagg. Installation was fairly easy (from knowledge of installing window tint). Took less than 15 minutes. The end result is pretty much flawless, slight imperfections here and there that are pretty much unnoticeable unless you know where to look, but that is because the film hasn't thoroughly dried, after about a week (if it's anything like car tint) they will be gone. I didn't feel safe sending my laptop in for them to do it like others have done, so I did it myself.

While ordering, I didn't specify whether or not to have the fingerprint reader cutout, but it came that way...I also thought the Dell logo area would be cut out but it wasn't, so I put it on anyways. It actually didn't make much of a difference that the logo was there I just had to carefully squeegee the air bubbles out of it.

I just wish there were more pieces that were precut for this system...such as protection for the edges of the laptop where it is more prone to be damaged...maybe even parts for the bottom? I'm a freak about scratches and dings and stuff, so COMPLETE protection would have been nice, guess I have to order a sheet and cut it myself.

    Edit: I just noticed something...
Standard coverage: Top, wrist rest, track pad and mouse button(s)*.
Wrist Rest coverage: Wrist Rest only.
    * Some designs do not include mouse button coverage.

I don't see why they wouldn't make a track pad/mouse button cutout for the M1530

Wouldnt the plastic cause the hard drive area to heat up very easily?

    Looks very nice though

looks to be a clean install. did u have to clean the surface with soapy water before installation?

Yeah, haha the price is another thing that bothered me...however, I guess it's worth the price seeing as I didn't have to go through the trouble of making the cuts myself and having them already perfect. No, I didn't clean the surface with soapy water, I just used a damp microfiber cloth. Should I have cleaned it with soapy water?

ChrisXPS: I have no idea if it would cause the temperatures to rise, and after thinking about it, it probably would...being it's the bottom of the laptop and no one would see that bottom unless I have it flipped for some odd reason, I guess I wouldn't need protection there haha it's just my OCD

    Im lost...
I meant the wrist pad area, if covered in plastic, heat wont be able to escape as easily.

Ooooh, after doing some googling, no it doesn't act as an insulator and does let heat pass through =)

well u said that u had some experience with window tinting. as far as i know, u have to clean or prep the surface before u apply yur product. every tint install i've dealt with has gone thru a cleanin process with soapy water. it helps with impurities and helps the product stick better. but if yur install seems fine then i don't think it would make a huge difference.

Yeah, I have a little heat issue with my hard drive after prolonged usage.

And I would love to get one for my 1530, its a little expensive though.
ebay didnt return any hits either.
I might save up for this.

Windows aren't electronic devices that can be damaged by soap+water...I figured a damp cloth would be fine since that's how you normally clean a laptop according to people on these forums. Then again, I believe the solution that comes with the invisibleshield is soapy water...All in all water worked fine for me. I tried to find a place in my house with the least amount of dust as possible to do this. If there were any impurities trapped under the shield, it would already have been noticeable... We'll see when it's completely cured if I should take it off and clean some more. Oh, and I used latex gloves while putting it on so I didn't have to worry about finger prints.

Why thank you! =) Just from the looks of it now I'd recommend this product

Yeah, I hope it was haha I'm not too knowledgeable about laptops for this is the first one I've ever owned so the cleaning process and such is beyond me, never had to really clean out a desktop other than can-of-airing the vents. Laptops seem to get a lot of blemishes because of all the oils and what not on your hands.

    Exactly :)

You wouldn't want to spend time and concentration putting something on only to have a bunch of imperfections (such as fingerprints) left on it would you?

    For example:

Not to point fingers at this person or anything, but a result like that would surely be disheartening.

i didnt want to pay $40 for a precut shield from zagg/invisibleshield

bestskinsever has a $19 large piece of plastic uncut, same exact thing as zagg but without the warranty or the huge $$$

i bought that, skinned my Samsung BLackjack II and my m1330, still have a lot of leftovers.. (maybe 20% left) u have to cut it yourself... i dont mind it a little off.... just saving $20 :p

one trick about dust is to do it in the bathroom with hot water in the tub... hot steam would pull th eparticles in the air down and u get a clean enviro.. i made my own solution (water + plain liquid soap)

i havent had time to cut and apply for the sides of the laptop... i only applied it to the whole wristpad and the black top only

i know that the aluminium wristpad acts like a small heat sink, but my hands are sensitive to heat and sweaty... dont want a fading aluminium wristpad that some people here have after a fewmonths..... ive checked hwmonitor.. temp for CPU/GPU stayed around the same(well, they're at the bottom of the machine).... temp of HDD rose maybe 1-2 deg.... cant check wireless card or northbridge temp, but getting a cooler (NC1000 soon)

photo of it just made, a lot of bubbles
    [IMG]
    shiny
    [IMG]

    now:

let me take more picutres and upload now... most of the bubbles are gone
    [IMG]
i only covered the black areas that surround XPS logo and bounded by the depressed areas on all four sides
    [IMG]
lets just say my craft work sucks....

Hi, I have the precut one from Invisible Shield (got it half off a while back, lol). I found that these products stretched a lot so it was hard to get it exact. For instance, my fingerprint reader and touchpad reader areas came out hardly exact. Another thing I noticed was that along the edges of the shield it got dirty with dust and whatnot; not sure if there is anything I can do about that. I actually found the the shield kept the surface of the palmrest cooler; kinda nice :). Certainly the GPU temp was not affected (the main temp I am worried about); not sure about the h/d but I am not sure it would be that affected given that the bottom is not covered. Anyway, I think these products are great but require a lot of time and practice to install, even the precut ones (could not imagine cutting my own out!). Quite frankly, if I did not have a second set, I would be up the creek without a paddle. I wish there were more tips about how to get the darn thing on without stretching it and how to keep it even. I do recommend the shields (precut or cut by yourself) as they do provide excellent protection and look very stylish but I would say they are tricky to put on!

Hmmm...I didn't experience any stretching at all, so I have no idea about that.

A little trick I did was to stick scotch tape on my shirt to get the lint and make it not as stick, then stuck it to the corner of the invisible shield cut out to peel it off with the tape. While peeling it off I continuously sprayed the solution on the adhesive side. Before laying it down on the lappy, I sprayed the solution to the surface I was applying it to as well so it would be easier to maneuver while placed on top. If I had to do some readjusting I GENTLY AND SLOWLY peeled it off, sprayed again, and readjusted. When I got it in the perfect position I took the scotch tape off nice and slow which came off pretty easily because of the dampness and lint that was already attached to the adhesive. When using the squeegee it didn't really take much pressure for it to get all of the air bubbles out, especially since the solution was on both sides of the InvisibleShield making it easier to glide. Follow the installation tips from the website and also watch this video on how they installed it on a Dell 1525. Those installation guides are pretty much straightforward and correct on what to do.

either that or you WET your fingertips when peeling it off, ur fingers wont stick to the invisibleshield

@yasdaz, its not that hard cutting... u just need a sharp penknive/exacto balde... and run through the stuff ONCE (if you mess up, too bad... cause running it over twice makes it look bad and it stretches if you try to cut small pieces off...)

    mine didnt stretch either

    lol

I got the one for the wrist pad..and as I was peeling the invisibleshield off the paper backing, it stuck back on it self, so in 3 minutes I had a mess of jumbled plastic covering with dust/fabric particles all over it.

    It was a complete disaster.

Luckily the people at zagg send free replacements.

That happened to my first shield. They were very good about giving me another one! I finally installed the back big part. It is very hard because it is so sticky. I sprayed both sides and my fingertips but it kept sticking before I could really get in in place. I managed to get it done finally but had some (very little) lint. I still would recommend the product but it takes a lot of practice to get it right! By the way, do the bubbles work their way out as the shield sets or do you really have to push them out before it sets?

yep, you should try to get as many of them out as possible when you first get it on there, but they will/should work their way out after...if you have a few here and there don't worry about it, you won't even notice them later and they'll end up disappearing anyways.
