I just upgraded my vista home premium 32bit, to Service Pack 1

My Sigmatel sound now got a problem, my 5.1 surround doesnt work anymore,

even i tried reinstall the sound driver, I went to Dell site looking for latest sound driver for XPS M1530, but none, since last year 17 december, dell no updates any newer version sound driver for M1530,

the version im using now is the latest..

with the speaker test.. seems every speakers works fine, but if play music, movie, or sound in windows, the 5.1 only front left anf right speaker have sound,

subwoofer, rear let and right , center no sound at all..

anyone here has the problem after installed Vista SP1 ?

I recently upgraded to SP1 for my M1530 and the audio for some programs is just weird. It sounds a bit distorted and forced to be much lower in frequency. I've uninstalled SP1 and the distortion remains for some programs while being fixed for others. I've also tried doing a restore but it experienced "an unexpected error" and could not be completed. Currently, I have SP1 installed and I hope new drivers are released to fix these issues. Otherwise, I may have to install XP on it.

If you have low volume, try this, it might be the fix you need. I found something over on the dell community forums on the issues people were having with regular sound on the stock audio card/driver combo for vista. If you are having problems with low volume sound in vista, try this fix.

I recently bought a 1525 and had the same problem.

Managed to get more volume by doing this:

Start -> Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers / Headphones -> Enhancements Tab

Then, Tick the "Loudness Equalization" -> Apply / OK

I have also ticked the "Bass Boost and Low Frequency Protection" plus the "Virtual Sound".

The volume is still not great, but definitely better than it was.

Link on dell forums is here: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?message.uid=18990197#U18990197

This definitely fixed my issues with low almost inaudible sound on Vista. Sound is pretty good and I can actually hear it now.
