I don't know if this is normal or not. I don't use this laptop for gaming so i wouldn't know how high the temperature reach but i gave 3Dmark06 a try to see how my computer did. Here are the results.

Is my score and temperature normal?

Everything looks in order to me.
-
Isn't the CPU temperature bit too high? I thought it should be sub 80C.
-
Lol, my bad...looked at the current column and not the highest, sorry. Your idle temps are ok, but you may have a faulty video card and possibly heatsink/fan. I would say to undervolt your CPU to get that temp down, but call Dell and talk to them as both your CPU and GPU are up.
-
Dang it won't let me paste a picture of temperature after A12 bios update:
CPU:
Core 0: 86C
Core 1: 87C
GPU: 88C
HD: 50C
The temperature has goes down somewhat but I'm still thinking it is bit high. -
Still high but considerably better. The update probably turned the fan on earlier and longer to cover up the heat issue. Wait for another 1530 owner to post up with more information. Good luck.
-
The hard drive temp is fine, however the GPU and CPU temps are a little too high. The only things I can think of that would alleviate this temperature issue are:
1. Heatsink mod, check the forums.
2. Applying arctic silver as well
3. purchasing a cooling pad
4. undervolting/underclocking
If you do all of those things, I don't think your temps would ever pass 70C. -
Shouldn't I contact dell if it's their fault? I don't want a subclass laptop since i paid decent chunk of money for this.
-
Yea, you should contact Dell, modding the system is a dumb idea if you are still under warranty. They will probably get a new cooler fitted, and maybe motherboard if they think the GPU is causing it.
-
im getting 95 degrees for CPU while playing resident evil 2 ( 10 year old game), it just doesn't make any sense for it to heat up that much, so i called dell yesterday they said they will replace the motherboard and fan.
-
the "safe" temperatures are:
CPU below 70C
GPU below 80C
the actual limit on the harware is :
CPU 100C
GPU 115C
(reaching these temps will automaticly shut off your computer)
If you are getting higher temps than 84C on the GPU and 75C on the CPU while stressing it could mean that you have either a faulty card or a faulty heasink, hope this is of help !
( by the way, on stock clocks, my xps m1530 gets a max of 79C on the GPU and 72C CPU and that is with artic silver 5) -
Koer, NBR should sticky your post for all forums as many people are having the exact same issues. This helps to clear it up...great post!
-
but im afraid this would not apply to everyone as laptops have different ways of managing heat, so if a lappy has a bad cooling design and max temps always reach about 88C on the gpu and 80C on the CPU, then no matter how many times it gets replaced, it will never get any better.
So i would think that those temps are a bit xps m1530 specific, and maybe they apply to other laptops aswell, but its not a general rule.
Thanks anyways Gerald -
I just cannot see XPS M1530 as much of a gaming computer. Sure, for light gaming, but pick up an Asus or Sager for cheaper if gaming is really what you want. I'm picking an XPS M1530 up now, but one primary reason is it's one of the only Blu-Ray Write lappies on the market. That plus, with the HD screen, it will do my video editing very nicely. Competitors for me are MacBook Pro - yea, it's beautiful, but no Blu-Ray and mucho over-priced and also Sony FW. But, Sony tech support worries me and the FW is larger really then what I want. So, to do video editing, blu-ray, my work powerpoints, etc., this is the one. Also, Dell tech support is the best, so that trumps it for me. But, again, if I just wanted a gamer I would pick up one of those nice, shiny Asuses out there if I were you

True, many have awful cooling systems *cough* Asus *cough*. It would be nice to setup a master registry and then base temperature analysis on that. The 8600M GT is a great gaming card. Plays most games on medium settings and the more demanding games on medium-low, then with a bit of overclocking you can definitely achieve 30-50fps. Anyone who is gaming and wants great performance should look at the 8700M+ but preferably a 8800M/9800M. On a budget, the 8600M/9600M are great deals.

Don't forget to clean your fan and exhaust vent/grille if you havent done it yet.

1- the 4 year warranty supported almost worldwide, or at least here in Mexico, other brands dont offer such service.
2- its amazing portablilty, this computer has a very unique balance between power and portability, making it an ideal computer all the way.
3- its fast GFX card, OCing it ( with an external cooler)
is easy, and will deliver a nice boost making games run like a charm.
4- its awsome lightweight, aluminum design, and them shiny logos on the screen ( not to mention the neat blue color) stylish overall
