    Hi,

I'm planning on changing the thermal compound on my M1530's CPU and GPU as my temps are getting pretty high when playing Medieval 2: Total War. I am getting high 80 degrees on both CPU and GPU.

The thing is I have never changed thermal compund before and I obviously want to get it right!

I have tried to find a tutorial, but I can't. Well I did find this but the link is dead.

I have heard about the 'grain of rice' and 'credit card' methods, but they are a bit vague.

Does anyone have a copy of the linked pdf or some other tips?

    Thanks very much.

p.s. Does anyone else understand why M2:TW runs 'hotter' than most other games?! I tried turning the graphics down from high to medium and the res from 1920 to 1440, but it makes no difference!

I have used Arctic Silver. They have instructions on their website.

Did it just an hour ago. Did a set of tests that I also did 7 months ago and all temps seem to be 10C lower! :)

How did it end up working out?
You should have some relief w/the compound. The thermal compound worked out nicely for me for a little while :)

Also, do you have any warranty left on your 1530? I'm asking because of the Nvidia failure rate on the GPU. You may want to have the GPU looked at, as those are high temp' readings ~ and I'm afraid they will inevitably come back. The Nvidia GPU warranty was extended for one year on the 1530s.
