I too had the crappy Samsung WSXGA+ screen. Mine had rubbish viewing angles both horizontal and vertical. It also suffered from very bad light bleed at the bottom. I have a 3 year old Toshiba Satellite 5200 with a 15" UXGA glossy screen by Sharp and the differences were startling. No glistening screen, no light bleed, reasonably wide viewing angles. How something this bad could still be produced three years on by Samsung was the most shocking part.
My M1530 also suffered from the electrical leakage on the palmrest. Despite what some people on this forum will tell you, the UK adapters shipped with the laptops (as of 01/07) are only 2-core wired. Yes they have a 3 pin plug, but do you know of any UK plug that doesn't? To prove that I wasn't going mad and believing that I was experiencing this electrical sensation for the sake of experiencing it, I swapped in a 3-core wired Dell adapter from a port replicator and lo the " unique texture of the brushed aluminium palm rest" is GONE. It now just feels like normal brushed metal should, um metallic![]()
I spoke with XPS tech support in Ireland and got my screen swapped out and I got lucky as I got an LG one. I did tell him that if I ended up an RW785 part the laptop would be going back for a refund. At the same time I also got myself a UK 3-core wired adapter. The part numbers for the adapter in the UK are:
Power brick (with 3 connecting pins)
C2894 ASSEMBLY..., ADAPTER..., ALTERNATING CURRENT..., 90W19.5V, DELTA PRODUCTS..., WORLD WIDE...
Power cable (with 3-core wiring)
6U364 KIT..., CORD..., 250, 3F, D3W/3P, UNITED KINGDOM..., SINGAPORE...
I got a LG XK309 but the part on the order came with the following generic part number:
Y274C SERVICE KIT..., LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WSXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC...., TLF
The service engineer was kind enough to let me confirm the internal part number before he fitted the LCD panel
The LG panel really is streets ahead of the Samsung. Comparable to the Sharp panel in my old Toshiba in terms of quality. There is slight light bleed, but nothing to get upset over. It is also alot brighter than the Sharp, and whites are truly white.

I just got mine today, and the first thing I did was look for the grainy screen. The first thing I thought was it seemed to be a little dark. Eventually I plugged in the power pack and it lit right up. It's beautiful!
I ordered the WSXGA+ (1680x1050), so following the advice here in this thread I checked on the part number... it's an LPL010F, and the colors are gorgeous! Not the least bit grainy at all. I feel bad for anyone who says they got a crappy screen, but if all of them were like mine, I'd have to say this laptop would be selling even better than it already is.
I spent the afternoon ghosting the entire OS with Acronis, so I'm going to see how she runs in a little while, and do a clean reinstall tomorrow and get rid of the bloatware. With Acronis I have an exact copy of what came on my system on a set of DVDs.
WRT the clear stickers, yes, I had them on the hinges, the Media buttons, and the front panel with the earphone jacks. I'm VERY happy with this purchase, as it's way better than I had expected. BTW, I placed my order Friday the 22nd and it wasn't supposed to ship until the 10th of March. I got it today, the 26th, so that's 4 DAYS to build and deliver it.
I took pics as I unboxed it; maybe I'll get a review up tomorrow or the next day. -
I just received my XPS 1530 yesterday and ended up getting the Samsung screen as well. I was very unhappy with it right off the bat with some really bad light leakage at the bottom and a terrible vertical viewing angle. I contacted technical support and spoke with Shoeb Ahmed (ID# 158101) and he told me that he was aware of the issues (he even linked me to a forum post) and that Dell was investigating the issue. He mentioned that they would have a resolution within a week...now whether or not he was yanking my chain or not, I don't know, but I hope they get it resolved soon.
I decided to get a replacement system since I was also having an issue with the "reed switched button" that tells the screen to turn on when I open the laptop when it's in standby mode. I hope I get the LG this time around...or whatever alternative they come up with. The Samsung is definitely unacceptable. -
I ordered mine last Saturday, and today the order is indicating it was shipped. I guess we will see what screen I get... I will let everyone know the verdict. Seeing that 404 got an LG, that gives me some hope.

I am typing on my new XPS M1530 as we speak........
And it was shipped with.... a LPF010F!!!! I got an LG screen right out of the box! Maybe they really are starting to ship with less Samsung and more LG! I am SO happy that I dodged this bullet... my apologies to who ever else is having issues with their screen.
XPS M1530 WSXGA+ Screen is Terrible!!!!
