I have compiled this over the last week or two - tested and working great. There are many threads on the subject, and lots of jumbled info and driver listings over hundreds of pages. I read them all and did plenty of my own research to compile what I believe is a complete and final pack of drivers. It attempts to provide the best performing and latest drivers (in that order), with no bloatware for the cleanest possible installation. The pack contains detailed installation instructions in a readme file.
Download here (110mb):
http://dropbox.pehu.be/Udi_M1530_XP_Drivers.exe
(Thanks to DarkSide for the no limits mirror)
If there are any problems, let me know and I'll attempt to fix them and keep the driver pack updated. The only things I haven't tested personally are the HDMI port, and the non-floppy installation method for AHCI SATA, but they should work fine.
Credit has been given where due in the included readme file, a big thanks to everyone in the two long threads that helped make this final pack reality.
If anyone else can mirror the file (with high bandwidth limit or no limit servers) it would be much appreciated. There were over 200 downloads within the first week so I took my personal server's link down. If the mirror doesn't work for any reason, PM me and I'll link you to my personal server.
Enjoy,
Udi

I don't even own an M1530 but wanted to show some appreciation of your efforts by posting.
Kudos. -
Thx man I finally get my bluetooth working. But how do I instal Winamp Plugin, I just only got this file "gen_inspironbuttons.dll". Where do I have to copy it
-
Mudi -
No worries, I mentioned the Winamp Plugin instructions in the readme as well, but basically, you just paste that DLL in your winamp directory, in the plugins folder. Typically, the directory will be c:/program files/winamp/plugins. Works great for me.
L.Rawlins -
Thanks, a kind word never goes astray. I'm usually a selfish prickp) but decided I spent way too much time compiling these drivers to keep them to myself.
If anyone tries the full pack as a clean install, let me know how you go. -
hey my dell travel remote control is not working can anyone help??
-
Thanks for the effort.

Great Effort Udi!
I used your pack, with a few modded drivers to create a nlite image. Just installed it and everything works perfecty, except for a few extra's I wanted to pack:
Dell's Powermanagement won't install (but that doesn't seem to be a problem?)
I'll c if I can find a solution, if any1 else knows, please let's hear it!
What I modded was:
* replaced graphics drivers with Extreme_G1.75-63 from www.tweakforce.com
* replaced the chipset exe with an extracted one from dell itself (so I could integrate into the nlite image)
* added the fingerprint reader software package
* added a printer driver
All in all: excellent package and great for integration into a nlite iso -
Great work ..
i used for AHCI SATA

Whats the point of a XP downgrade?
-
ronak1078 -
What program are you trying to use it with? I only use it for winamp, so the provided winamp DLL makes it work great with that. I think it works for everything by default though (with no driver). Maybe check the batteries on it etc. I'm assuming this is the included remote that goes in the expresscard slot.
Lucanesti -
It's just heaps faster than Vista for daily use. It also gives you a ~100-150 point advantage in 3dmark06, and whatever that translates to in FPS. But mostly it's just faster as an OS I found, and trying to get Vista to work the same is a pain because there are so many more services involved, and so many dependency networks within those services (ie. you can't turn many of them off because other services you need will depend on them). XP has far less, and you can turn on the bare minimum of them because there are less dependencies. In turn that means more RAM for you and your applications, and less wasted by the OS... and less junk bloating up your system basically. It's a matter of preference still, if you like Vista then by all means stick with it, but personally I wanted as much of my system's performance for my own use as possible, and I think XP provides better in that respect.
ToiletMan -
Good to hear it worked! I just use windows power management (it's very basic) and use the raw settings manually for power management - ie. powermizer, speedstep, and brightness controls. Cutting out the middleman basically. But if you want the Dell package, what error is it giving? If it's an OS check error, you can do a silent install which will skip that check. If it's something else I'm not sure.
And about the driver, I actually included the 174.31 DELL driver which performed better than the 174.31 laptopvideo2go driver... and better than most of the other ones I've tried. How does your 175.63 perform in 3dmark06? Stock clocks... and 1280x1024 (default) res. It won't run at that res unless you have a WSXGA+ or WUXGA screen though as I found out recently (in case you didn't know). Let me know what you get! -
You'll have to do it for each of the 3 drivers (and therefore each of the 3 unknown devices in Device Manager). Let me know if you still have problems. -
I have my Vista running barebones and using less than 200mb of ram and 2% cpu usage.
Skinned to 98, no background picture and 8 running processes. With DX10, which is key to me. -
Like I said, if you are happy, stick with it.
Personally I prefer XP (you can get it using less resources undoubtedly), am not into Crysis so don't need DX10, and this thread and driver pack are for people in the same boat as me. -
I guess some people just like XP, my system looks like 98 and honestly feels like it, and with the little extra resources it may be using it shouldnt effect 3GB of ram and a T8300 :-D
To each their own, and its good to see such useful things being created! -
-
Would be nice to know what version drivers are in the package...also, I can provide a mirror without bandwidth limit if you want
-
But anyway, you can still install the drivers. Go to Control Panel > Add Hardware > Next > Add a new hardware device > Next > Install the hardware manually > Next > Show all devices > Next >
And then the usual "Have Disk" method. See how that goes and let me know if it works. It should let you install the 3 drivers (one at a time following that method), and if you have the cards you can test them out. -
0. AHCI SATA (7.8.0.1012)
1. Chipset (1.1.15.0)
2. Audio (5.10.5210.0)
3. Video (174.31, DELL)
4. Card Reader (6.00.01.05) 3 separate drivers
5. Ethernet (10.60.6.3)
6. Touchpad (7.1.102.7, DELL)
7. Fingerprint Reader (1.9.2.0111)
8. Wireless (11.5.1.15)
9. Bluetooth (6.1.0.300, 5.0.1.2609, DELL)
10. Webcam (2.0, DELL)
11. Quickset (8.3.11, DELL)
12. Winamp Plugin (1.0)
I think it's confirmed the pack is working for a few people at least, so you can go ahead and mirror the file if you are able to. Post the link up here or PM it to me and I can edit the first post with it. Cheers. -
*edit* I inserted an SD card and it recognized it. The device is listed as SD disc reader under device manager. However, there's only one type of SD disc reader. Should I just install all three drivers on that device? I slipstreamed SP3 btw. -
Never mind, I found it. Device manager showed 3 "basic devices". These were the card readers. I have installed everything successfully. The driver from the Intel site is crap though.
Btw, how do I remove the "My bluetooth locations" icon on my desktop?
XP seems to be a bit slower than Vista in opening programmes etc ... -
Udi,
You rock!
Many thanks!
Akash -
I've just updated the first post with a newly mirrored link for the download, thanks to DarkSide.
akash1221 - no worries, glad to help.
Not sure about the bluetooth locations icon, as I didn't install bluetooth (disabled - no need for it personally). Maybe someone else can shed light on that one. -
Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to create the drivers package.
I successfully managed to install windows XP Pro on my m1530 with them.
Just one word of advice, don´t know if this is something common or if it just happened to me, but well...
I first created an install disc using nlite UNDER VISTA integrating the AHCI drivers AND windows xp service pack 3... problem is that when I was trying to install windows from that CD I just couldn´t enter my CD Key (which, of course, is a valid, legal one).
I had to create a new installation CD without the service pack 3 and just the AHCI drivers to make it work... and downloaded service pack 3 as soon as I got Windows XP running.
Other than that your package works like a charm, thanks!. -
Forgive me if this is already mentioned...
My M1330 came with Vista and I immediatly switched to WinXP PRO SP3.
Last night I used the three disks for a) webcam b) Roxio c) Creative Audio, which are for Vista; and they all installed without so much as a burp in XP.
I was surprised as one of the CD's ran by clicking on the Vista.exe file.
Hope this helps someone, or forgive me if everyone already knows this.
Chetanji -
However, I do have the impression that xp is slower at opening certain programmes etc. Especially the start menus are slower. -
I might have missed it. But I used your driver pack yesterday (thank you btw) and I did not see a Dell Wireless (Broadcom) driver supplied in the pack.
-
I have a question. I have an XP CD with built in SP2. Do I have to specify in Nlite that it should integrate it, or will it integrate it automatically?
-
Nope, it will keep the service pack
-
-
Thank you UDI, I've managed to install WinXP with your drivers. Its running great.
Ill follow this thread to get updates to the drivers -
Great guide thanks for compiling everything UDI
... I would really like to do this with my fresh M1530 when its comes in but I don't feel I'm tech savy enough to be able to accomplish it.
Does it matter what SP you use? Like Win XP SP3 Black edition or anything? -
Fantastic work Udi, I myself went through the 100+ post thread as well, but as I didn't have my m1530 at the time, I didn't test the drivers.
Your drivers work very well, and the readme is very comprehensive. Thanks again for sharing! -
No worries guys, great to hear it's working well.
Regarding the broadcom/dell wireless driver, I will have to add it to the pack at some stage for those people that got the dell wireless rather than the intel wireless. For now, this post should help.
And regarding the intel wireless driver performance, I found a setting under device manager > adaptor properties (for the intel wireless) that was about performance vs. power consumption, and I switched it to best performance (just turn the switch off when you don't need wireless) and it seems to be working great.
Finally, for mousepad, there's a setting in control panel > mouse properties (last tab I think) that lets you set samples/frames per second that the touchpad takes (why this is under normal mouse properties I have no idea), but stock setting is 100. I made it 200 and it seems smoother. Not sure why it's 100 by default.
That's everything I've found out so far.
PS. My bandwidth for this month is gone, about 200 people must have downloaded the driver pack haha. I'm taking my link down and leaving the mirror only, if anyone else could mirror the pack it'd be much appreciated. Seems there's a reasonable demand! -
This is absolutely a fantastic compilation.
In case any others find this helpful, I ran into a problem in that I have a sony floppy drive (actually it says dell but is a sony oem) that works for specifying the ACHI drivers after I click the F6 button but when XP tries to actually install the drivers in the 2nd phase of the install it no longer can see my sony floppy. Turns out that this is a known issue @ microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916196
Short story is that udi did unbelievably fantastic by also pointing out the lazy method which worked like a charm. I would have been up a creek as they say without this post.
Thanks! -
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
depending on your side of a gamer, u would choose XP for better DX9 gaming, but Vista for DX10 gaming
and i think vista 64-bit is best for dx10 gaming -
i was going to do the Lazy Method like Udi provided, but i ended up slip streaming the AHCI drivers into my XP pro cd, and installed it that way. works like a charm now. -
Does anyone find that the XP start up tune sometimes a bit stuttery? Particularly after a restart?
Small matter I guess.
But whats the latest sigmatel drivers? -
Kennedy87 -
I'm running SP2 (it was slipstreamed with the OS). Basically, run the minimum service pack you can get away with - every upgrade is slower. On my last laptop I ran SP1 with the bare minimum individual updates I actually needed, and it booted faster than SP2 by a long shot. SP3 just adds more functionality (mostly useless as usual) and therefore will be slower again. I think SP2 is a good compromise between things you need and things you don't, but personally I still turn off many services (especially the built in security centre / firewall / updates / all that garbage. I can look after myself.)
Tricks -
Don't think I had a problem but I turn off all windows sounds after install, wasted processing really. I'm fairly sure the included Sigmatel driver is the latest, but feel free to check for updates. It works great for me though in terms of everything audio related I've thrown at it (audio playback / dvd playback / microphone recording / etc). -
Udi,
Thanks to your driver pack, and the separate link for us folks with the Dell 1505 WLAN card, I now have an XPS M1530 running Windows XP SP3. I did not go the slipstream way, I actually did all the manual steps. For those interested in the exact procedural steps I used with the Udi driver pack to Upgrade my Vista M1530 to XP, please see the attached.Attached Files:

First, thank you for all your hard work!
I used your driver package (I had to add driver for 1505 802.11N Draft Mini WLan Card) to create a fully integrated WinXP SP3 installer CD. The thank you is because everything hardware worked right off the first go around (including booting from my SATA in ACHI mode). I have had less than this level of success from other driver bundles / suggestions.
Upon completion of my base WinXP SP3 install (and all the Windows Updates required, IE7, .Net Frameworks 1.1 and 2.0 and the rest of the security updates) I began the process of system and boot optimization (using visboot).
As has been noted by others in other threads, I was unable to activate Disk Write Caching using the F6 boot mode driver even when I installed the Intel Storage Matrix Manager Console.
I have done considerable research on the drivers available and it seems there is a new version of the ISMM Drivers which will enable Disk Write Caching and greatly improved performance.
These should be incorporated into the Driver Package to obtain Maximum Disk Performance and are intended for the chipsets: Mobile Intel GL960, GM965 and PM965.

The above drivers will correct several issues and greatly improve system IO performance.
I have some other mods and updates which should improve performance between 20 and 40 %.
There are additional drivers I have uncovered but I have not been able to log pr document their stability or performance enhancement but once I do have the performance gain or loss I will post them up.
*Note - I had to do the Device Manger for each ICH8 and then also for the ACHI disk controller.
Once I wasn done, write caching was again enabled.
Since thesse updates seem to solve some performace optinos, I would recommend them.

Mike Keefer -
Is it possible to install these drivers over the present drivers?
Not that it is important since I have to reinstall XP anyway, but might be interesting to know for other users -
-
In answer to your question of is it possible to replace the drivers long after install and configure, YES. That is how I did it. I have documented steps and will post them later tonight when I get home... it is somewhat of a pain in the ars because many drivers need to be manually updated via device manager but I have it working after installing from UDI's set and then installing a whole lot more (full install process documented).
Also... if the links are wrong I appologize, I will post the correct links again when I get home... just wanted to get the info out there since it will greatly improve the performance of the XP system.
And yes, the floppy driver is needed... but you don't need a floppy drive once you have your system already booting AHCI... read my re-post below for more detailed update instructions which can be done even after your system is loaded (Just so long as the load wasn't done under ATA).
-Mike -
UDI, That was just Amazing. I could install Windows XP on my laptop, thanks to you, I just hope it performs as it is supposed to . thanks for all your help guy. More power to this forum.
-
Okay all...
Very sorry for the incorrect links to intel drivers, not sure how that happened (exhaustion i suppose).
To begin, our 1530s use intel 965 mobile chipset so... I started with the chipset driver / video driver / intel storage matrix driver + app webpage which is available at: http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-025753.htm
The 1530 doesn't use the Intel graphics control (as far as I know) so just ignore that part. As you can see from the page above, all three of these chipsets (GL960, GM965 and PM965) use the identical chipset and ISMM driver / app packages.
This URL (hopefully) will take you to the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility Page for Windows XP (32bit) edition (works for me): http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=816&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21
Once at this page, you will notice the first two items (listed as drivers) are only different in that one is supposed to be automatic and one is in zip format for developers (there may be other differences, I haven't checked). In either case they are listed as version # 9.0.0.1008 with a release date of 6/2/2008. Personally I downloaded both to a local folder on my machine (c:\local\downloads\m1530\new_drivers\)
Once I had those, I went back to the multiple chipset downloads page listed first and then selected the "Intel Storage Matrix Manager" which for me was: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2101&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21
First thing I did was select the link #1 under drivers for RAID/AHCI Software - Intel® Matrix Storage Manager version # 8.2.0.1001 dated: 6/2/2008. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2101&DwnldID=16012&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng There are 2 choices for download on this page, I chose the english only (the first one): http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2101&DwnldID=16012&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng and downloaded it to a local folder (c:\local\downloads\m1530\apps_new).
Then I went back to the ISMM page and downloaded from link #2 ( http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2101&DwnldID=16012&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng)the 32-bit Floppy Configuration Utility for Intel® Matrix Storage Manager (this is what you would use for F6 or nLite driver bundling that allows access via AHCI).
As I mentioned, I already had a fully loaded system (drivers, quickset, office, visual studio and much more) so I didn't want to start from scratch.
First... I ran the Auto INF update utility from Intel and rebooted (hoping this would replace the majority of drivers already present). Didn't work too well, a few were updated.
Second... I manually extracted the zip version of the above and went through my device manager finding all references under "System Devices" to both the Chipset (mentioned above) and also to ICH8X... for each of these I chose update driver, that I would specify driver and finally where to look (my local download driver directory). When windows would prompt me to select the driver I wanted (I had drivers in \Windows\XXX and also in other places) I would manually compare versions to see if a newer was provided by the ZIP package and when it was... manually specificy that driver.
Being lazy I did this with all the entries I mentioned above but didn't let it reboot until after I was done.
Finally.... Under IDE/ATAPI Controllers I selected Intel(R) ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller and selected Update Driver. Again I indicated don't install automatically, then Have Disk, then Pointed to the above referenced Floppy32 drivers which I downloaded and extracted. I was presented with my options and I choose the newest version which was: #8.2.1001 dated 5/7/2008. I was prompted to reboot and did.
Next after reboot, I did the same manual update process for the Intel(R) ICH8M UltraATA Storage Controllers version: #8.2.0.1011 dated 11/15/2006. Again I was prompted to reboot.
Finally (no really finally) ... I installed the new Intel Matrix Storage Manager software I had downloaded above (iata82_enu.exe).
Once all the above was completed, I went into Device Manager, Disk Drives and opened the properties on my drive. Under the policies tab I selected Enable Write Caching on this disk and OKed my way out. I rebooted for good measure and guess what? The Enable Write Caching was still enabled and when I re-ran bootvis to optimize the bootime I didn't see the warning about Write Caching Disabled on the disk any more.
What this equates to in real world performance I have no idea but I am certain it will improve it!
UDI, could you please post your bench mark results (numbers and such) from 3DMark06 when using your base drivers set (maybe they were posted, I read the thread fairly well and didn't see them) and I will bench mark this version.
Additionally I am yet again going to create a new nLite installer disk with some additional optimizations (which yes you can also do after install, just more complicated) and when I have my baseline XP (similar to UDIs but with the newer drivers and write caching installed) I will benchmark and post the results.
If I have forgotten somthing, I'm sorry... still at work and running from memory but the above is the general method I used for updating after installation of a FULL system.
Regards,
Mike
