    Hi all!

As my Vostro 1500 came with a LG display and I want to swap the laptop for a XPS 1530 one, do you think that I can take out the display from Vostro and put it in the XPS laptop? Will the cables change between one another?

I would say no. The cables are different:

    Hope this helps.

I am thinking that I will be able to swap cables from one screen to another. I am also thinking that Dell uses the exact same display on both Vostro and XPS, so all I have to do is keep the cables and just swap (only) the screens.

I really like the display on my Vostro and would like to keep it on a (future possible) XPS. :)

Lao, you should be able to swap the screens only. When I swapped my SEC screen for the LG I didn't even remove any cables. It just plugs in near the back top of the LCD itself. Try and see if they are plugged in the same spot and have the same connector.

I only have the Vostro laptop right now. If I had the XPS next to it I would definitely had the answer, 'cause I'm a guy who doesn't step back from opening laptops, specially when I have the service manual near me. :D

I also know that Dell says on both laptops' parts lists "XK309" when they reffer to the 1680x1050 LG screen. I'm thinking it's the same screen, otherwise they'd have different names, right?

I don't know if this means they are the same. I do know it wouldn't be very cost effective for dell to alter every supply port on the LCD itself to accommodate each laptop. I am pretty sure you will be able to swap as long as it is just the LCD panel itself. Let us know what you find out.

I really don't think its going to work for you. You will have to swap inverters as well and the mounts are likely different.

From what I see in the pictures on the weblinks Moidock posted above, the inverter and the screws that hold the screen in its' bezel are the same. The only difference is that on XPS the screen is hold by 2 brackets mounted on the sides.

IF I put my hands on a XPS 1530 I will definitely try it. I can't stay away from at least trying. :D

Right now I am waiting for an email from my brother to let me know if he can carry the XPS in his luggage on his way to Romania at the end of May. If he gives me the green light, I can buy the laptop. ;)

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd let everyone know that my m1530 and Vostro 1500 panels swapped out without any problems. I switched the 1680x1050 LG panel from my Vostro 1500 into my XPS m1530 and I'm writing on the new screen now. I had to disconnect the cable that goes to the inverter and the top of the panel on the back and use each laptop's respective cable on their new screens.

All in all it was pretty easy if you are handy with a screwdriver and a static wrist strap :)

Now all I have to do is get this 1920x1200 matte finish screen from a Lat D800 into the Vostro. I'll have to do some research on the inverters though to see if I can switch them out, since it looks like the D800 panel has an older, larger inverter. The Vostro and m1530 both have a much slimmer profile inverter. Any insight as to whether I'll burn up the 1920x1200 screen or anything by using the slimmer Vostro 1500 inverter? All of that is assuming that I can get the mounting brackets to line up or switch them out.

Anyway, I hope this helped someone :)

It won't help me anymore, at least not right now, because I didnt't buy the 1530. Anyway, thanks for sharing this info with us. ;)

I was pretty sure it could be done.
