Hi, I've decided to create a thread comparing the size of the M1530 and the M1330, as some people are having troubles deciding between the two.

Here's a pic of the two (closed):

    Closed, at the back:

You can clearly see the 1530 is much longer at the back then it's little bro.

    Depth, at the back:

The 1530 and the 1330 have the same depth at the back.

    Depth, at the front:

At the front, however, the 1330 is much thinner than the 1530.

    Brightness of the screens:

My 1530's screen is much brighter than my 1330's.

    *Other things to note:
My M1330 has a CCFL display, not the LED one.
My M1330 has the AUO optronics display, which, according to AUO, has 250 nits of brightness. My M1530 has the Samsung(CPT141F) screen, but I couldn't find anymore information about it.

If you have any questions, or want to see more pictures, feel free to ask, I'll get to you ASAP.

Nice comparison, but could you take the brightness comparison with both identical pictures?

What is the resolution of your m1530's display and in actual use do you notice much of a difference between it and the m1330?

Both my M1330 and M1530 have WXGA(1280x800) screens. I can definately notice the brightness between the two during use, but I don't notice a loss of resolution/detail with the 1530 even though the screen is 2 inches larger.

Yes, the 1330's screen looks dull and lifeless compared to the 1530's.

Maybe you should try adjusting the color settings in the Nvidia Control panel if you haven't already. Digital vibrance makes quite a big difference.

The LED screen on the M1330 is nice and bright. I would like to see the difference between the 1530 and 1330 LED version. I also wish they would offer LED for the 1530.

which is probably why the m1530 looks more vibrant. If you had the 8400m gs on the m1330 with the same digital vibrance setting, it would have been a nicer comparison.

    Here you go:

The M1530 is noticeably heavier than the 1330, especially when picking it up or when putting it on your lap.
The M1330 is around 4 pounds with the CCFL Display, and the M1530 is 5.9 pounds.

Thanks a lot man .. I have to choose between this two (the company is going to give me a laptop) and I guess the m1330 is a better choise since I need portability .. but don't like the small screen that much

I originally ordered the m1330 .. it's a very very nice and light machine but the screen was too small for me. I spend a lot of time reading and it hurts my eyes in the long run. The 1530 is a lot easier on the eyes and is great for portability IMO. I find it pretty light considering it's a 15.4".

I think your screen (CPT141F) is Chunghwa Picture Tubes not Samsung.
Mine also WXGA and it's a grainy Samsung screen :(

    BTW, nice comparison pictures

This is my first reply (0 posts) b/c I just joined an hour ago. I am undecided between the 1330 and 1530, although I have been looking at a Sony as well but most likely will buy an XPS. Is the keyboard on the 1330 the same size as the 1530 or smaller? I assume that if it is the same size, the keyboard will just extend closer to the edge of the notebook having less of the case between the keys and the edge. I have seen other 13 and 14" computers w/a smaller keyboard which makes typing slightly more difficult.

I'd get the M1330, unless you play modern games, which you shouldn't be playing if you're in college :p
All of the other specs can be configured the same(CPU,HDD,RAM,Wi-Fi card, etc.)

and m1330 is more expensive for the same parts b/c portability is a premium($$$$$)

think whether you are willing to pay the ~$100 more for M1330 and lose the 8600 graphics card and hopefully not run into 8400 overheatingon the m1330

from the pics, they seem very similiar in size?

I have a 15' 2.7 kilo laptop, and its nice but its just to heavy and cumbersome to carry around...

But maybe 13' is to big to carry around with me constantly... hmmm... :(

if I go down to 12' or less there wont be any with dedicated graphics cards! and that sucks!

    Great post Rep+

The 13" seems to be quite chunky at the back end for such a small laptop, is it actually quite a thick laptop at the back or is it just the pics make it look that way?

I'm comparing it to the thickness of the 13" Macbook which is just one thickness throughout as far as I remember.

Still stuck between the 1330, 1530 and Macbook 13" lol. The 1530 is the best performance for the money, but obviously isn't as portable as the other two. Leaning towards the 1330 because it looks really cool in those pictures. Could you get me any clear lit pictures of the keyboard and palmrest materials?

How would you rate the overall quality of the XPS laptops? I assume they both feel as solid as each other.

My last question is do you notice any difference in performance when just using Windows applications such as firefox, office etc etc, I am assuming not since they aren't graphics card intensive.

Any noteable performance differences (assuming they spec'd the same other than the GFX card?)

Out of interest how come you bought both the 13" and the 15"??

Maybe because you aligned it using it back end of the notebook, and then took a side view shot? Move the M1330 up so that it's flush with the front of the M1530, then take a picture of the front to show the real thick/thin between the two. They should differ no more than 0.06 inches, identical to the 0.05 difference of the back.

m1330 is 0.9 in thick in front and 1.3 in thick in back and 4 lbs (with 4-cell)

Yep, the M1330 was the thinnest 13.3" laptop till the MacBook Air came out. It was made to compete head on with the regular MacBook (The M1530 competes with the MacBook Pro and is almost identical spec for spec).

Btw, I'm loving how you got a Xbox 360 HD-DVD player add-on in the first picture. I almost picked one of those up for $50.

mmm my friend told me the smaller the screen the more tired ur eyes get. Is this true when it comes to the m1330 and the m1530? Also i dont know which one i should get. Im a student that goes to high skool. I will move it around the house alot since i have to take it downstairs to study etc etc. Also I will take it to school sometimes when i have assignments. I used to play games alot like Call of Duty 4 but i have quit but maybe might go back. Also i have a 3 year old desktop which was pretty good at the time. So which one should i get?

processor is fast enough. but i am not sure with 128 MB GFX card. i think u can run. but it will not as smooth as 256 mb card
