I am considering buying M1530 but I feel very uncomfortable risking a large amount of money for something that I can't see first. And I am not so sure about Dell Return Policy as stories about customer return experiences vary greatly in this forum. So, I really would like to see the unit first before making a buying decision.
Where can I see XPS M1530 at a retail store in the US? I have searched BestBuy, Staples and WalMart websites but none of them carry this model. Sam's Club has one but they don't have retail store in my area. Where else can I see demonstration model of this laptop?

Not sure if they still exist in the US, but in canada we've got dell direct kiosks in some malls and they have demo models.... it's where I went to see my m1530 before i bought it

I saw a M1530 displayed in a Best Buy in Boston. However, it wasn't turned on. I asked if it could be turned on, and was told that it wouldn't boot and would go to a Blue Screen Of Death. Nice.

they have them at staples canada.....
i don't know about best buy...i doubt bestbuy will have them since bestbuy is filled with HP's and toshibas -
I've only seen a m1330 at the bestbuy here in Albuquerque. The problem is, even if you see one you like on display it may have build quality issues on the one you end up with or order. Dell uses different LCD panels so you may love a display model with a LG screen and end up with a crappy SEC. As long as you return within the first 21 or 30 days depending on the XPS policy, you should not worry. Just tell dell what you don't like and they always refund everything back if you buy direct from dell. The key is to make a decision before that initial period runs out. The only downside is having to go through the frustration of receiving a bad laptop and arranging for a replacement or refund. Just make sure if you need to get a replacement do it right away so you can get the replacment before your 21 or 30 day period expires. Then if the replacement is bad as well just throw both of them back at dell and shop elsewhere.. thats what I did. The only drawback is they take a month to credit you CC on refunds. If you want a 1530 you have to just hope for the best in getting a good one. As you can see, plenty of grainy screens are being used on this model as well as other build quality issues. I think its a pretty nice system if you do manage to get a good one.

the grainy screens are usually on the 1280x800 ones because they are putting on a crappy samsung screen....1400x900 is fine with an LG screen
-
I'm having that screen solution with an LG screen. First time purchase from dell and I'm lucky guy!

I have a very nice 1280X800 LG on my HP machine. Too bad dell does not just use LG for both resolutions. Its funny because last summer the 1420's and 1520's had tons of issues with the wxga+ (1400x900) screens and the wxga's seemed to fair better. Now its the other way around.. nice.
Its funny that people call the samsungs crap now. Last summer that was considered about the best you could get out of dell. I think the 1520's had a LG but they were rare. The 1420's either came with an AUO or SEC. Take your pick either grainy as hell or dark and bad viewing angles. Not sure whats up at dell but they should try to get some QC on the LCDs. But if they are putting mostly LG on the wxga+ 1530's then that surely is the way to go.
