I boughy a pulled bluray drive from a dell xps m1530 to replace my DVD drive that came in mine. I was able to install the drive with no problem, however there seems to be a little shield like thing that covers the front entrance of the drive. It keeps discs from entering and when the drive is in my computer it is in the up position by default, drops for a moment when I hit eject then returns to the up positioin. My old drive, however, this shield is in the DOWN position allowing media to be put into the drive. Why is this? Is the drive bad? My computer recognizes the drive when it is in the computer, it labels it BD-re and gives me access to it but since that shield won't lift I can' put a disc in the drive and test it.

    HELP!!!!

    Thanks

Yes, since you ask. So far this forum has been pretty useless but I'm glad to post what I found out. I bought a drive from an XPS m1530 off ebay, it was the bluray drive. I installed it fine and it wouldn't get recognized by the system, unfortunatly, it was a bad drive. I returned it and bought a different one. Installed it and it does work, it fits and is recognized by the computer. It reads and write blu-rays but it will not read any DVDs or CDs. Im guessing it is a bad drive not a problem with the switch or the software because it doesn't eve recognize a disc was inserted when it is a DVD. Kind of disappointing but at least the bluray works.
