Received my XPS 1530 a week ago and everything has been great!... except the fingerprint reader![]()
I have had previous experience with a fingerprint reader on my friend's laptop and have become very comfortable with it. Personally I felt like a pro.
But now on my own laptop, I get a "success" 50% of the time.
Any ideas why its so much harder? Bad fingerprint reader? Need new drivers?
halp!
P.S. My friend's computer was a dell XPS 1330.
Thanks!

Mine is about the same. Half the time it will read it, half it won't.
Lick you finger, wipe it off on your pants or something, then try it. Seems to work better for me that way.
It took me an hour to set it up. 10 fingers, three times.
At work I have to clock in using a hand print reader. It hates me. It takes a couple tries to get it to work.
I tried some of my toes on my 1530...but I couldn't get it to read my toe prints.
Good luck. -
lol mattocs, u serious??
using toe kinda cracked me up hehe -
To me, the fingerprint reader is just a toy. So yeah, I wanted to see what it would read and play around with it. If I was more flexable and stuff, I bet I could get it to read my toe prints pretty easy.
Toes do have prints, right? -
... lol... thanks for the input guys!
So I guess I don't have a defective fingerprint reader. Thats a relief.
Enjoyed the toe print comments
*I might try it myself...
P.S. Oh and yes I think toes do have prints :S -
as by me that is just the way fingerprint readers work, they are not very accurate in reading if the hand movement is not "perfect" or very precise, there is nothing wrong about your m1530, just enjoy!

I thought mine was defective at first cause it would say bad quality every single time. But now I can do it almost always.
You've really got to understand how it works. It's not just a laser sensor that detects your movement over it or something...not that advanced lol. The little sensor maps your fingerprint as you stroke it (which you'll be able to actually see when you can do it properly). The guide tells you to start from the bend of the fingertip. This is rubbish though since the groove kind of steps in rather than sloping in so you can't do it properly. You have to start from the centre of your fingertip and stroke it all the way up to the tip actually bending your fingertip in making sure it remains in contact with the sensor (contrary to the guide which says to keep it straight).
Works like a treat once you know how it works. -
I have found that I have to "smear" my finger across the sensor for it to work. Don't listen to the tutorial when they say not to bend your finger.
