Help needed! The cdrom does not show up in system anywhere. I don't see it in the bios, as a boot option, or in Vista. Any suggestions here? The cdrom is the trayless version. According to the spec sheet for my Dell laptop, I believe, this is the Dell part# (HT141/Assembly, DVD+/-RW..., 8, Slot, 1530 Teac). can anyone confirm, what the problem may be? Any/All suggestions are welcomed. Thxs in advance.

If you have Vista/7 see if device manager sees it first. If it does try deleting upper/lower filters or run the Microsoft tool.

M1530 has a slot loaded drive, a pain to remove/replace. Make sure it isn't a software setting first.

Thanks for all of the responses. The cdrom is not listed in device manager. Will replace cdrom. Does anybody know, the Dell part or spare part #?

Did you try the registry fix or the Microsoft tool? It's worth a shot.

put your windows OS disc in, and tap f11 on startup, and select boot to CD/DVD, if it loads, its a windows/driver problem.

F12 for Dell's. But look at it from the opposite way, if it fails to load it doesn't mean the ODD is defective, that could be a bad SATA controller or bad motherboard that won't read it. It won't rule out 1 thing for certain.
