*edit* pics on page 2 *edit*

first thing that i have to say is that this thing looks amazing. The build quality of this system is above what the reviews give it. I can tell you that its easily on par if not better than the build quality of my Vostro 1700.

As far as all the negative reviews that i've read on this site. I have no complaints as of yet. My WXGA+ screen, im assuming is the LG screen, (LPLDF00) and it looks beautiful. Also the hinges may be slightly off centered but its less than a millilmeter off, if at all.

The slot loading drive makes noise when loading and unloading discs, but it is no louder than the click on my vostro 1700 when the disc tray is ejecting.

I havent tried the fingerprint reader yet. Oh and I love the fact that both slots for the ram are nearly on top of each other on the underside. Makes the upgrade to 4gb a snap. I also received 2 express card remotes with my system.

I'll take some comparison pictures to the Vostro 1700 a little later. Right now I am going to yank the hard drive out of this baby and get XP put on it. (still not a big fan of vista!!) Also need to figure out how to access the bluetooth connection to take the card out of this computer and stick it in there.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I took off of work today so ill be around all afternoon!

    Vista performance scores are:
    Processor: 5.3
    Memory(RAM): 4.8
    Graphics: 5.9
    Gaming Graphics: 5.4
Primary Hard Disc: 5.1 (haven't put in my 7200 rpm drive yet)

    Congrats on your new laptop.

support.dell.com should have service guides to tell you how to access/remove the bluetooth module

How comfortable in your opinion is reading texts for more than 10 minutes on the WXGA+ Screen? I mean like Word or on websites?

When you go into the bios look up on wireless settings I think any way, select all devices for the radio switch or BT+WLAN save settings and make sure you turn on radio on right side of laptop when setting up XP.. Or just download this file here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=210905.
    Wonderful laptops ;) from what I hear.. I'm using M1330's :)
    Good luck

My guess is the WXGA+ is probably beautiful and very comfortable... The problem may arise from WSXGA+, some say it is perfect, others say it is too small. I just ordered a WXGA+ just to make sure, but I'm still not 100% sure of my choice to be honnest.

You can adjust the text size in Windows if you find it to small... :) Let us know how it goes :)

    Waiting for those photos :)

Well, since I am used to reading really small text on the WUXGA screen of my vostro, this XPS WGXA+ screen seems really easy to read. I notice that i dont have to strain my eyes nearly as much to focus on the text.

Side note: vista has bluetooth drivers built in and my card was recognised ;p

also, all of the service manuals that you can find on the dell website are actually included in the XPS owners manual. Go figure ;p

Oh and I tried out the head phones, there is no static interference persay, but I do notice that when there is no sound coming through the headphones there is a a very faint background noise similar to when you turn up the speakers on a stereo with no sound coming out. But this is nothing less than expected from a machine that processes as much electricity as it does. After all, you can only dampen so much processor and GPU interference through the motherboard. IMO the only way to get rid of the noise would be to have an external sound card.

That is quite a pain to be honnest. Yes you will adjust the text in windows, but you then need to adjust the text in word, and the text in your web browser and well, the text in every application you will use because increasing the text size in Windows does not affect directly all the applications.

Also, increasing text size gets to a certain point not as clear as having your native resolution. Try it on your screen, I do have a 22 inches 1680x1050 and if I increase text size to 120 dpi, it is a bit blurry and not crisp clear.

also, i noticed when i was upgrading my ram that instead of including 2x1.5gb ram sticks, there was a 1 gb and a 2gb stick. pics are coming as soon as i figure out how to host them ;p

that definatly does not happen on mine. Looks like a driver issue.

edit: oops i lied, it does do that, but only in the windows photo viewer. When I open the pictures up in Windows Media Player and resize, it does not do that.

You will not find 1.5GB ram unless its something new and I've been in some kinda time zone.. Your fine with the ram setup you have at current..

What resolution is that? What a GREAT looking 15 inch laptop....looks so thin and light. So impressive.

I'm between XPS M1530 and the Alienware M15X.

It it fast in terms of loading times, etc?

I always worry even a fast laptop wont be as quick as my desktop XPS Gen 3 with dual raptors and a P4 EE.
