Hi all, I have been reading almost each n every thread in this forum for last two weeks,

First of all I thank you all for contributing here, giving out very much valuable information to me and to everyone else..

I am from INDIA, i am goin to order a dell laptop for me by monday, i am unable to decide which one to order,

i am down with two choices,

Dell XPS M1530 and Studio 17..

I am ready to go for XPS1530, but my friends advice me that there are many problems with xps15, its overheating, have a noisy fan, and as i read out here some have grainy screen, these are the things that makes me uncertain in getting this....

In studio 17, i love everything, the look, screen size, keyboard, but the thing that stops me in getting that is, i couldnt play any GAMES in it in a decent setting... i dont know why the dell is giving such a poor performance graphic card in studio 17...

someone please suggest me what i should do.... is the problems in xps1530 is very minor and i can go for it, OR, the studio 17 is better with no such problems but with lesser settings games is good to go??

I am no computer geek, please help me to decide.. give me some pro's and con's of both choices.

I configure both the laptops to the highest available choice for all components.

In my configuration studio17 comes to a final cost of 84,000 ruppees
xps 15 comes to a final cost of 79,000 ruppees.

    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Dinesh.N

    Hey!

I say go for the 1530...coming from fellow 1530 lover!

I have had no heat issues, no *annoying* noisy fan, and I got the LG for my screen, and it's not at all *grainy*.

I think you might like the 1530 better than the S17..The 1530 is more portable, lighter...and just a sweet lappy. Yes, it's been on the market for well over a year..but it still sells well, and is just nice.

Mine runs fast for me, and that's one of the things I really like about it!

Also, another advantage is it's cheaper than the S17 :D

    Hope that helps!

    Cin ;) :)

isnt the xps1530 has the 8600m gt? the 8600m gt on XPS M1530 has been widely known to be defective.

DELL releases a BIOS update to reduce the number of failure under warranty.
they do this by increasing the fan speed and make it constant, which means more noise (dont know by how much), and less battery life.

I have the 8600, and since I received my 1530 over a year ago..have had no issues with the 8600G. whatsover.

Plus, I have the extra 1 year warranty now on it, so if it does prove defective..I give Dell a shout out! :D Maybe, I got lucky? *tap's on brushed aluminum palm rest* :)

    Thanks cin,

In www.dell.co.in, there is no option to order xps 1530 at all...There is not even a page for xpsM1530, it had been there a month ago when i checked, but now its gone.... do anyone know why they removed it.....

does that mean i cant order xps M1530 now from India...

I read in studio 17 review that the score in 3D Mark06 for studio 17 is 2974, but xps is 4332.

I really dont know what these scores means, studio 17 is around 1400 points lesser than xps 15, is it TOOO BAD?

can anyone explain what these scores really mean.. what is the significiance of the extra 1400 that xps got over 17.. ??

    :(

    Hi,

XPS M1530 is end of life in India.

You can order Studio XPS 16. XPS M1530 is a great laptop and I have been using it for past one year with no problem at all.

I have just ordered Studio XPS 16 and it should arrive by 25th Feb 09.

    Friends,

I called Dell today and spoke with a Retail Account Manager there, She told me that DELL XPSM1530 is end of life in INDIA, they dont have any stock of it and also they has stopped manufacturing it in india. I cannot order it and get it from dell. Even if i get any old stock from local dealers, dell wont cover any warranty for it.. :(

This leaves me in no other option to go for DELL studio 17..

    Thankyou all..

    Regards,
    Dinesh.N
