I recently put Vista x64 on my M1530, and it works just fine until I go to log off the system.

At that point it takes 5-7 minutes and all I see is Logging Off....

Under Windows XP and Windows Vista x86 work just fine. I can't seem to find out what is causing the problem.

Anyone else have this issue and know how to fix it?

Yeah, that's the guide to use. Some program is hanging and not responding to the shutdown command by the OS so it takes forever to actually shut down.

Yes I have tried that, and it still takes forever to log off.

I have a desktop system that runs Vista x64 as well, and does not have this problem, without using the tweak stated in that thread.

Did you install the service pack 1? Also you might want to check if all your drivers are up-to-date.

Sp1 is integrated into the Dell Vista x64 DVD that they sent me, and I am using all the latest drivers that I can possibly find.

It is probably something stupid and I will figure it out eventually. If not, I can always just go back to the default install.

There was nothing really wrong with it, but I wanted x64 for compiling certain projects.

I have x64 on my desktop, so if this doesn't work out, it is not a huge issue.

Hum. Where is Les ? He's an x64 guru.

That tweak should force Windows to kill services more quickly, thus shutting down more quickly. Maybe it's something else? Just for the fun of it, you could check and make sure the value is set right on that...

Vista is having problems terminating a running program/process. Try reducing it to see which process could be causing it.

Try turning off the page file (virtual memory setting). Control panel > System > Advanced Tab > Settings (under performance) > Advanced.
That's a quick and dirty fix for the log off hang problem.
