ok. so i have the 1440*900 screen on my XPS M1530 and when the brightness is reduced to a value lower close to 10-40% i hear a buzzing sound. it doesn't always make the noise, but it is really often. i think it might be the ccfl, but i am no sure...
you guys think dell might change my screen for that?
how could i get them to change it?
btw... i have the 3 year warranty on it...

Faulty inverter.. It'll have to be replaced.

Yeah, definitely a faulty inverter. It could be that since the CCFL 1440 is not really as popular since there is an LED version out, it may be more prone to defects like the one your experiencing.

ok. so i was pretty close
how could i convince dell to replace the entire screen? -
Depending on when you got it, hopefully within 21 days of receiving your notebook I hope. Just tell them you got a defective screen and you want it replaced. They will send over a technician to do it for you, or if you are up to it, do it yourself and just have them send the part.
There have been experiences from other users where the technician accidentally drops a screwdriver on the display, scratches the touch button panel, etc etc. as the computer they are working with is not his/her own, so the technician doesn't really care too much about it. :/
Though you might get lucky. You should receive no complains if its within the first 21 days. If its past the 21 days from your invoice, just tell them whats wrong, tell them you've got the 3 year warranty, and they will do something pronto without any complains are hardships.
Or... you could just call for a whole new replacement if your within 21 days just because you can make sure you got a brand new one. -
thx. i am past my 21 days with a few monthsi will call them and tell them about it to see if i can get the screen replaced.

well... talked to dell. they will replace the entire lcd kit
thanks for your help
btw. i was trying to get a copy of vista 64-bit for my notebook and they will not give me that since they do not support it... w/e
and they will not give me a media direct 4.0 cd.... -
I have the same problem; this is the sound that my M1530 produces while lowering and resetting the brightness to the maximum level for three times:

get on chat support with dell tell them you hear the noise. They will make you do a diagnostics test and it will pass. Then you boot the diagnostics partition do an LCD test and that will pass also. Then they will tell you they will replace the entire LCD kit on the computer. Make sure you get on echat from a different computer.
