I am having a hard time deciding. From dell.ca ...

Should I go with the Product Red fully loaded (default) XPS with 1680x1050 and 9cell battery for $1640 or a Vostro 1500 with similar specs, except with a 7500, 1680x1050 and 1gb of ram and 9cell for $1440? So is it worth the extra $200 plus taxes for the XPS?

They're quite close and I think that unless you are really concerned about flashy appearances (in which case the 1530 might be more appealing), I feel you should opt for the cheaper Vostro.

Also note that the XPS is lighter by more than 1 pound compared to the Vostro.

If you're concerned about weight and looks, the 1530 is a no-brainer. On the other hand, an extra $200 isn't pocket change (at least for me). :D

SmoothTofu, here is an edit of your avatar, if you would like it.

Don't the XPS come with HDMI as standard but the Vostro don't?

The dell Inspiration 1720/21 and the Vostro only come with DVI as standard don't they?

That Vostro price seems really high... I guess dell.ca doesn't have as good a dell as dell.com.

If they are only $200 apart I'd go with the 1530. Besides being much slimmer and lighter the graphics card is a little better than the Vostro's. But, in the US Vostro is tons less expensive than 1530...

Go with the M1530 but don't get any upgrades for the ram and hdd cause you can get them way cheaper from other stores. I got my 2gb ddr2 667 for $40CAN. Dell Canada charges $100.

They are also easy to install:

And wait for the penryns before buying as they are slightly faster and consume less power.

If you game you may prefer the faster GDDR3 video RAM in the 1530 rather than the DDR2 8600m GT in the Vostro.

That's quite an expensive Vostro. My advice is to go for the XPS.

    I just bought both.
The Vastro was much easier to load XP Pro on as Dell has the drivers available (listed).

The reason the price difference is only $200 is that the XPS is $339 off right now. I wish I could configure the ram of the XPS lower but I cant.
    Here are the main specs:
    XPS Vostro
    Proc: T7250 T7500
    RAM: 3GB 1GB
    HDD: 250 GB 250GB
Service: 3 yr rtd 3 yr rtd
    screen: wsxga+ wsxga+

The rest I don't really care about.
