With XPS M1530 to be released in just a few days and rumored to be priced similar to XPS M1330 with similar configuration, what you would buy? Which one would you prefer and why?
-
I would still rather opt for the M1330. The 15.4 inch for me is just too big.
-
GPU on 15" should be little better than what it is, especially with XPS logo on it.
-
-
15.4 inch is too big.
13.3 inch is perfect. -
Compared to M1330, M1530 has/can have:
-T7800 2.6 GHz 4 MB Cache Processor Option OR
-T7700 2.4 GHz 4 MB Cache Processor Option
-15.4-inch WXGA+ TrueLife 1440x900 LED Backlit LCD Option OR
-15.4 Inch WSXGA+ TrueLife 1680x1050 CCFL Backlit LCD Option OR
-15.4 Inch CCFL WXGA+ TrueLife 1440x900 CCFL Backlit LCD Option
-NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT Video Option
-128 MB or 256 MB Video Memory with variable TurboCache Option
-Additional USB 2.0 Port on the left side
-Blu-Ray Disc Mediabay Option
-S-Video Connector on the right side
-Height 44 mm (1.7 inches)
-Width 394 mm (15.5 inches)
-Depth 293 mm (11.3 inches)
-Weight (with 6-cell battery) Configurable to less than 3.6 kg (8.0 lb) -
Despite the XPS branding, they are targeted at two different market segments. Therefore, not many people wanting to buy a M1330 would change their minds by M1530.
-
I am pulled between the two as both of them fit me well!
-
13inch is about the biggest screen size u want to carry around with a lot of grunt, so 1330 for me
-
15" is too big for me
I'm liking my m1330 -
I voted for the M1330 as it fills a good niche.I don't know what market, they are trying to fill with the 1530
-
big and heavy = no no
1330 is a perfect for the niche market who require portability on the go -
Well at the start of the rumors, the 1530 was to weigh in at about 5lbs. Now info indicates it may be as much as 8 lbs! I can get the 17" W2W at that weight! So I've been interested in the 1530 mainly due to the slimmer and lighter than average for a 15.4" unit. Have to see what reality brings on the 17th.
-
There's no way it'll be 8 pounds.
Anyway, 13 inches is just a little too small for my taste. 14-inch vs. 15-inch would be a tougher decision for me, but if it's just 13-inch vs. 15-inch, then I'm going with 15-inch. -
-
Since the M1330 has HDMI, I expect the M1530 to have HDMI too. In that case, DVI would be sort of redundant with HDMI.
-
-
You can also do Component/Composite (via HDMI to Component/Composite).
What more do you need?
Dell has kept VGA mainly because of variety of legacy projectors! (That's what I was told). -
-
Looks like most you will be happy if Dell throws HDMI to DVI cable or adapter in the package!
-
I would still go with the XPS 1330 as I find the 15.4 too heavy to carry around
-
If the 1530 gets a better graphics option, it's the 1530 for me.
-
I would have to see the laptops and pick them up to be able to choose.
If the weight isn't much different from the M1330, and the price was similar, I'd go for the M1530.
Some of the specs listed in that service manual are of questionable accuracy. -
M1530 provides a portable 15 incher to compete against the mac book pro... HDMI out is nice as well... Look forward to buying a non bulky (non Inspiron) HDMI equipped.. battery life friendly portable that will give me no screen real estate problems....
-
-
But it still said it would weigh 8 pounds?
-
-
Going by poll results, so far the trend has been "Hey, mine is smaller than yours!"
-
The 1530 with only 8600GS is not powerful enough even if its light...
-
If the 1530 is going to hope to compete with the MacBook Pro "niche" it will have to do better than a 8600GS. Small form factor, large screen and power are what's going to sell it. It's going to have to have more power than a 1330 to fill that MacBook market.
Hopefully, it will be priced similar to a MBP but with the flexibility of the MBP it's going to be a tough sell imo. -
M1330 all the way. The addition of the HDMI port on this unit allows it to function as a desktop replacement... that's ultra portable.
That is a unique selling point, that for some reason they've yet to try and sell it on. Haha.
Silly Dell. -
...
-
Dell may drop LED backlight LCD from M1330 and offer it only in M1530!
-
-
Going by the votes, I think I should also pick M1330 after I get my refund!

M1330 is the way to go if you care about battery life / portability. M1530 if its raw performance.
Be prepared for some build quality issues though. I ordered two systems over the last two weeks and both were delivered with the A01 motherboard, and one of them has a lot of issues (bad paint job, lid doesn't close properly, misaligned left hinge, crooke hinge cap, keyboard hump, southbridge whine, ding on the edge of the screen, tc) -
the M1330 offers good performance in a portable size. it's perfect.
-
I personally like 1330 than 1530. Both are sleek but I want something that portable so I can bring it to classes. But some build quality scared me to buy it right now. Does anyone think that this problem will be solved by next year?
-
I have a M1710 and I thought I would love the 1330 for it's size and portability. I did at first and the novelty quickly wore off.
After having the 1330 for some time now, I feel it is too small and somewhat flimsy. I think the 1530 is the perfect balance between too big (1710) and too small (1330). Even watching a movie on the 1330 kinda sucked.
I guess it really boils down to personal preference..... -
Well,.. if the 1330 was flimsy.. the 1530 is going to be as flimsy if not a little more considering the bigger screen...
-
Well...
I had a Samsung Q35 (12'1 inches) and I loved it but I was power hangry to be able to play some games...
As far as I am concerned, DELL should have used a 14' instead of the 15' but nobody is perfect...
My Q35 was 2kgs... The M1530 is 3Kgs so not too much heavier for much better performances...
It is all about compromises.... ;-) -
what would you need 4 for?
