    Im going to college this september and Im planing to buy a XPS Laptop.
    But I dont know which one...the xps m1330 or m1530.
    I will use it for homework, study, sometimes playing games and video.
    I will carry it most of the time.

    I like both XPS, but I cannot decide!

    If you're every going to run any last or current gen games with mildly decent framerates you'll want the m1530. You can get the m1330 with the 8400m GS, but there are way too many overheating issues.

    I went with the XPS M1530 due to the better graphics card. It makes one hell of a portable (and backup) gaming system.

    m1330 = mild gaming
    m1530 = good performance gaming
    m1330 = extreme mobility
    m1530 = hard to carry around (college)

    Depends... ;) Both rock.

    I don't see how the M1530 is hard to carry, it seems pretty thin and light to me.

    Subjective ... I am a college student and have no interest in the M1530 simply because it isn't a portable size/weight to me. :/ It's a heavy notebook. (I may be fit, but it's not about what you can/can't physically hold.)

    I actually began college with a similar sized notebook. I pretty much never used it because it was a clunker to me.

    Looks good, I got mine with nearly the same specs but with 2 Year Warranty instead and mine was $1380...so ya that's a pretty sweet deal.

    AlaskaGrown, I am also a college student by the way which is why I got this laptop. If I didn't need to carry it around I would have gotten a 17" probably. Of the 15.4" laptops I found the XPS M1530 to be very light and very thing for a 15.4" laptop. I think the MacBook Pro is similar in thinness and weight, but nothing else comes close. Both are a great balance of power and portability that is unmatched. And with the XPS M1530 being $800 cheaper then an identically configured MacBook Pro...the XPS M1530 was the clear winner.

    It all depends on whether your after mobility or gaming performance.

    I got the m1330 for the mobility. I carry around a small satchel at college with my xps, a 6 cell battery, the charger, and perhaps 1-2 A4 notebooks. This is something I could never do witha 15.4" laptop.

    previous to the m1330 i had a 15'4 inch asus and a dell inspiron 15"4, once you get the m1330, the difference is massive. its thin and light and fits easily into a small bag. I used a massive crumpler for my last laptops.

    But then its all about personal preference only thing i screwed up on with the xps was not getting the 9cell battery so i could leave my stupid charger at home.

    1530! FTW... ;) :) :D :cool: :cool:

    I use it for everything, and don't find it to be heavy, or cumbersome at all ;) :) I, was even torn between the 1330 vs. 1530, and am happy to have chosen the 1530. :D

    It's just a great notebook ;) :)

    I use the 6 cell and the 9 cell on my 1530....9 cell primarlily @ home, and the 6 cell when *out and about* :D

    They are both good batteries....the 9 cell is nice, it elevates the back of the 1530, and provides for ventilation underneath ;) :)

    It depends on your needs, and usage on what battery you may want to choose ;) :)

    If you're going to carry this around everyday you will get quickly tired of the M1530. The M1330 is your best choice.

    For many years I had to carry a laptop with me everywhere and my choice (based on company selected vendor) was the thinkpad X series. I've had the X24, X30 and X60 and all were great because I never felt like I was lugging a laptop.

    Sometimes smaller is better...

    Chose between the M1530 & Sony Vaio SZ series instead of the m1330. EPP for sony is pretty good as well~

    The discount will not show until you go to checkout screen for the sony fyi~

    but yeah for that configuration that's a really good deal~

    A 15" laptop is fine to carry around everywhere if you toss it in a backpack. In a shoulder-strap case I can see how it would get heavy after a while.

    Exactly! XPS M1330 i'd suggest since you always want to carry it around the college. I've had 15" Dell and i can tell that it was hard enough to carry around it in school... go for 1330.

    At the end, its your convince and decision. Just some suggestions from our side ;)

    I have a 1530 and love it but if you are going to carry it every day I think the 1330 is definitely the choice. I hated toting around my old 15" when I was in college.

    Oh I'd go for the 1330. I adore mine, and carry it everywhere.
    but wouldn't the 1530.

    I'm wondering about the new dell's coming out that are small and cheap.
    Maybe the 1530 and then get a Dell e little for travel.
    Just a thought.

    Im still undecided about which laptop to buy!!! :(
    My concern is about the weight.
    I will use it for college and sometime playing.

    The m1330 is light but is the m1530 heavy for carrying around?

    Your problem is mainly more on you than anyone else's given opinion on the subject at hand.

    All I will say is the M1330 is very light, and the M1530 is not heavy. How about that?

    m1530 is a mainstream 15.3/4" laptop ~6 pounds

    but carrying my sister's laptop around (7lb), think i would choose portability vs power

    If you're going to be playing some games, I'd bite the bullet and get the M1530. I love mine. I mean, sure the M1330 can play games but the 8400M GS is nowhere near a 8600GT.

    You should get yourself to a store with laptops, even if you can't find the M1330 and M1530 to compare. Just look for ones in similar size and see what you like. It's really all preference.

    I have the 1530..was also torn between the 1330 vs. 1530! I chose the 1530, as it fitted my *needs* ;) :) And, yes the 1530 is larger than the 1330...But honestly, I don't find it to be too heavy for carrying around! ;) :)

    And also, I encourage you to check out XPS's thread. ;) :) Very informative!

    This is a good thread ;) :)

    I chose the M1530 as well. I'm very happy that I did. It's larger, but due to the screen size. The thing isn't heavy at all. If you have it in a bag of any sort you probably won't even notice it.

    Most text books are heavier.

    Again, a 1530 isn't bad to carry in a backpack. It's not something you'll want in a shoulder-strip messenger-style bag around with you. That will just mess up your shoulder, back and neck. In a backpack it'll feel like another textbook. The 1330 is quite a bit more portable, though. It can easily be taken anywhere in pretty much any manner you feel like it. But with the portability comes a little sacrifice in performance and life (the m1330 generates enough heat to reduce its lifespan, and the fact that it is portable and will be taken around with you will also degrade its life).
