I have been thinking of getting a new XPS and was wondering if Dell plans to put a higher end graphics card in their laptops like asus has done with their M51's. I love my current XPS and a higher end graphics card would make it perfect in my eyes. So does anyone know if Dell has any plans to up its graphics cards some time soon? Or should I just go for more ram and a higher end processor?

They (and others) almost certainly will get around to using the new 9 series cards... eventually
But I reckon 8800M GTX' are the best cards you're going to see in laptops for a good while yet, due to cost restrictions?
9xxx series desktop cards haven't really been out that long, and they're still quite > very expensive.
So I'd dread to think how much a laptop version would cost... even if the architecture was available -
This assuming they don't kick the 9XXX series to Alienware brand and make XPS a dying breed
-
It wont be in the M1530 but the next xps laptop they make.
-

9 series cards probably won't be in laptops for a while...especially not in a slim 15" design like the m1530. In all honesty, if you're buying an m1530...it shouldn't be for games. And if it is, it's time to check out the higher end XPS's
-
The 9th series will probably hit mainstream after this summer, closer to winter, after the release of the 9800M GTX in July 15th for Clevos.
You might see a 9700 or something like that in the XPS, but higher than that, well, who can say... -
I would be happy with a 9600GT as in it a pretty "value for money" card (as much as desktop goes), assuming the mobile version has the exact specs as the desktop version.
Don think the design of M1530 would have prob fitting in a 9600GT as it is pretty similar to 8600GT.
But from a business point of view, would think that Dell will only release the 9600GT on the newer XPS.
Then again, we all can only wait and see -
They won't upgrade the GPU on the current XPS, most likely. Again, the current version of the XPS will probably be the last. I don't think they'll release an XPS 1540 or any future version. It'll probably just become alienware.
-
How long before they bring out a new XPS?
-
I honestly think the currently offered GPUs wont be much improved by the 9000 series anytime soon. The 8600m GT is a beautiful chip for a low cost laptop. It makes me warm inside as it display HD beauty on my laptop, and runs all my games perfect.
How much more do you want out of a laptop? lol -
What about putting in an option for the ATI 3650? I read on engadget that the new studio line will have an option for both the 3650 and 8600GT. Does it make sense for them to offer that upgrade from a cost/performance standpoint? How much better is the 3650 over the 8600gt? I've looked over the specs on notebookcheck.com and the 3650 looks like a pretty decent upgrade.

Nobody is positive. It has been speculated that the upcoming Studio line will replace the current XPS, and the XPS will be upgraded to a dedicated gaming laptop.
-
What Studio line ?
-
That looks like a confidential pic
Thanks. -
Its a possibility, However, it would be much more likely to come in Dell's next 15.4'' XPS.
-
If the new XPS line goes to dedicated gaming computers. I like where the XPS sits now. Right in the middle of the road between media/productivity and gaming. Looks like the studio will replace that and the XPS (or alienware) will take over for dell's gaming side.

paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
the new xps = not gamer line..... alienware = gamer line
new xps probably going towards m1330, portability+a little graphics+massive styling
XPS M1530 with a 9 series Nvidia graphics card some day?
