Greetings. I tried searching and just ended up more confused then I originally started with, Please forgive me. If the answer is a simple point me in the right thread direction I'll accept any rotten tomatoes thrown my way for poor searching.

I have the M1530 and the option to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro was presented to me and I took it. Sadly, I started having some problems with a game so dear to me.. So instead of going back to Vista I tried to figure out Windows XP Mode.

    I used this link..

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/configure-bios.aspx

but I'm either really, really stupid and in need of some direction in this issue, or my laptop can't use Windows XP Mode.

Thank you in advance... I really don't want to go back to Vista. 7 is so nice, hehe.

I'd assume if the option appears in the BIOS then you wouldn't have to check if your processor supports it. If it does support it, then you'd probably have to go to the BIOS anyway to enable it (mine was disabled by default). I don't see why your processor wouldn't have it considering my 3.5 year old Inspiron has it.

So yeah go into the BIOS and check for an option called something like "hardware virtualization." I don't know exactly where it would be, but if you hunt around you should find it.

Having said that, you said that you were having problems with a game? It will probably not be pretty running that through a virtual machine.

Oh did you see these instructions on the website?

    1. Depress the F12 key when boot menu text appears at startup
    2. Select BIOS setup and depress the Enter key
    3. Using the mouse, expand the Virtualization Support menu item by clicking on the plus to the left of Virtualization Support and select Virtualization
    4. Check the Enable Intel Virtualization Technology checkbox
    5. Click Apply
    6. Click Exit
    7. Fully shut down (power off), wait a few seconds, and restart your computer

If the option isn't there, then you're out of luck.

I can't find Intel Virtualization Technology in my BIOS, perhaps I should of added that in my OP... forgive me.. I guess I'll just dual boot.

According to the tool on that page, I was able to run it, I just needed the option in my BIOS but, its not there...

If the tool says you can run it, the option must be in the BIOS somewhere. I thought Sony was the only company that disabled the feature completely?

I had called Dell trying to find out if it had another name or something and they forwarded me to their pay for support line and I don't really have the money to talk to them. /cry.

Its an older game, and an MMO at that.. Perhaps it wasn't the best idea, but I thought I might as well try!

Well if it makes you feel any better the game wouldn't be very fun to play in XP mode. Might just have to make another partition and install either XP or Vista.
