Just to start, I named myself "complete retard" so you wouldn't feel the need to insult me. For instance, if I was a retard because I was "too ****ing lazy to use the search function," or if I'm retarded because "Dell always has delays like this," you can save the time that would normally be spent pointing out these horrendous character flaws because I've pointed them out myself.
I ordered two (2) XPS M1530s on 7-16-2008. The initial estimated shipping dates were 8-4-2008 and 8-12-2008 (apparently because it takes 8 days to paint something blue). This seemed pretty long to me.
Now the first laptop has been delayed, although the mouse I ordered did show up.
I'm going off to college at the end of the month, and it would be pretty annoying if the laptops shipped to my home address while I'm at orientation.
Just wondering if anyone else is having delays with their laptops.
sincerely,
Complete_retard

Have you called Dell?
-
No, but I got into chat with a representative who didn't tell me anything.
-
Yeah things like that do get into delays, there is no chance of expediting your order despite some CSRs say they will just to be nice, they don't do it. It all depends on what they have in stock.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
cancel your orders based on the delayed shipment.
buy 1 macbook pro instead of two m1530s. you'll actually save yourself some money that way and get a cooler aluminum case. basically the same hardware on the inside. -
Or you could go for the outlet.. but those are refurbs, so probably want to shy away from them. An ASUS might not be a bad option either.
Don't get a macbook. Apple, bleck. -
i ordered 7/24 and i got ESD 8/12. It's taking forever. If it gets delayed even more I'll be pissed.
-
My first estimate when I ordered my M1530 was a about 4-5 weeks.... yeah, I was not happy. Thankfully though the unit was built and shipped and I received my notebook in a week and a half. Thank goodness.
So if you have a long wait time, don't feel discouraged. You might get it sooner than you think. Luck has a lot to deal with it.
-
I'm going through a similar deal ... I ordered my M1530 on 7/21 and the ESD is 8/11 ... the ESD on my mouse from dell was 8/19 but I got it in the mail yesterday. I called them up to figure out what the heck was taking so long and pretty much they said that there were no delays and there was nothing they could do for me really ... I just have to wait but I am getting sick of waiting ... but oh well at least it will all be worth it in the end.
-
Remember, it might arrive ahead of schedule, just have faith!
-
complain to dell by calling them, and ask them which stage in production is the laptop. Threaten to cancel the order if it not done by a certain date, (for me it was my estimate ship date). They will try to work with you. They expidited the process when i complained and gave me free next day shipping, and called me when it hit the dhl truck (i called of couple times).
-
It varies and that happens only if you get a lucky rep. Most reps will tell you that the order cannot be changed and can only be cancelled and replaced, even to change the shipping method.
-
You guys shouldn't complain. I ordered mine on 6/24 and it still hasn't been shipped.

u'r all competing with the college students buying their laptops for college.....
/me laughs at all of you
-
BLEH....mines been "in production" for 6 days, is that too long? I tried calling dell, got put on hold for 45 min. to be told that their "system is down and turn around time is 3 hours" then have them hang up on me...this is ridiculous! the online chat rep seems to be an automated answering machine also...
-
If it were 6+ days past my ESD, and I received no accessories with it... Well, I know I would demand Dell to compensate for it!
-
$#!t they wont even let me change the shipping address to my shipping address at my school, now i gotta drive back home to pick up the dam thing..about 2 days after i move back in my dorm.
-
Hey, Unfortunately.....the only way this can be done is if you were to cancel, and reorder
That's probably the one bad thing...is that any change *even slight* you make to the order, causes you to have to *cancel and reorder*
Sorrys....

Just have your folks send it to you. I'm sure you can live without a laptop for at least the first week.
Still, I'd be rightfully pissed about it just as you are. Try asking Dell kindly to compensate for the screw up.
Edit: Well, this is assuming that you live with your folks prior to orientation.
-
Really? I was going to change mine because I also just moved for college. Looks like I'll have some driving to do.
Thought it's only about 25 bucks round trip for me to go home so it's not too bad.
-

its going to be like $100-$200 roundtrip if i were to go home, depending on time of day, amtrak charges too much
...
the only thing left is to keep going to bestbuy/staples and drool over the XPS laptop....
-
Ouch... definitely get them to ship it from your house to the dorms. Your look at about 10-20 dollars if you ship it parcel post with USPS.

mines already here
just talking hypothetically if i ever needed to go home quick
was telling those people waiting for the m1330/m1530 to go to staples and droll over
-
I already did that a couple of times since I ordered mine.

Quick question:
After looking at the HP that everyone and their moms seem to be purchasing (haha), how is the M1530 on the eyes? I'm kind of getting bored of the HP plastic/glossy look and I was attracted to how serious and manly the M1530 looks!
Anyone have any pictures from home
?
-
Go to best buy and see an M1530/M1330 in person... they look pretty sharp. I'd say they look better than the Macbook Pro.
-
It has a minimalist look and a unique style. The HP dv5t may give a stronger "Wow!" first impression because of its shinyness. Our eyes are naturally attracted to the shiny/glossy look, but it can get old fast. The brushed aluminum chassis coupled with the slim and sleek design on the XPS m1530 gives the system a look and feel of premium quality, especially next to a plastic glossy notebooks all around.
It's all a matter of personal taste, of course.
Here are some pics I found on flickr:
What is the equivalent of the [reveal] tag here? -
Thanks psygn (+1REP)! Indeed, the first time I laid eyes on the HP I was blown away. Seeing my friend use it everyday w/ Vista on his computer makes the entire setup look "bubbly" and boring (by Vista, I mean how bubbly the interface is, lol).
And "premium quality"...man those words definitely describe what I'm going for. I am all about performance. It looks so sexy on those pictures and the barrel hinge (drools)! It's not exactly as thin as it looks though, I'm guessing? The body looks less than 1" (body meaning without the screen).
Oooooooooh! These pictures should be enough to make up for the long production wait =). -
No problem! And you may want to get more opinions from other design-conscious consumers. I tend to like the minimalist look more, so I may be looking the opposite direction of many other consumers who love the glossy/shiny look. The HP dv*t still looks great, no doubt, but the touchpad was the real killer for me. I guess my fingers are more moist than most others, which gave the touchpad a very uncomfortable grippy feel (what a drag
)!
Either one looks great in its own way. I just like the design and build material of the XPS m1530 more.
-
You aren't the only one... I could barely slide my finger across.
-
Back to the OP's orginal question......
I also ordered my m1530 on 7/15. It arrived last friday(8/15). I think you're right when you say that the delay is probably because of the "blue".
Try calling them and complaining, they may upgrade you to next-day shipping(worked for me). Good luck -
Im finding myself hitting redial on my phone to check my laptop status order, while hitting refresh on dellcustomerservice.com to check my online status.....i just hope i get lucky with the 8600 graphics card i have.
-
I hope my 8600GT isn't faulty....I guess I'll find out hopefully in the next hour, whenever DHL delivers it.
-
Good Luck to you...hell, good luck to all of us w/ 8 series cards
