    Hi! :D
I am choosing the configuration on the XPS 1530.
I can save 80 euro choosing the 160g HD. :p
    Questions:
    1) anyone knows which model are coming with the two HD? Which for the 160g and which for the 200 one? Which one is better (faster, more silent, more reliable)? :)
    2) generaly speaking, those 40G more, would make the HD slower respect to a 160G one?
    3) are 160G enough, well, more than enough, with Vista Home Premium, no games, not too many programs, not too big programs, not video or audio editing?
Or if both are good and silent and fast the same, those 40G more worth the 80 euro more  ?

Good, so, we have here a 200giga Seagate (Good? Silent?), and a sometimes noisy Fujitsu (was a 160 or 200 giga? 7200rpm, right?).
    I hope on more statistics....
    ;)

I put a 200GB 7200 Hitachi in mine. I've read complaints about Hitachi in a few places, but I've always found them to be better: faster and quieter. So I'm a fan.

200GB will be at least slightly faster because the data will stored more densely and because, given the same amount of data it will in generally be less fragmented and closer together. The difference would be minor, though.

160GB is really plenty. More is always better, but unless you are storing VMs or a lot of video or uncompressed video, I can't see anyone really needing more.

Sir Joe, I have only had Hitachi Travelstars in the past. This seagate responds equally in speed but is significantly quieter than my previous Hitachi's. The HD clicking is higher pitched. It could be because of the aluminum or whatever palm rest on my 1530. I love it though.

    My 160GB 7200RPM is a IDE\DiskFUJITSU_MHW2160BJ_FFS_G2________________0085001C

160GB is more than enough for what you are describing.

I have my HD in the BIOS set to 'noisy performance' mode and I still can NEVER hear it, and it is very fast.

I looked at some benchmarks on www.tomshardware.com (under 2.5" hard drive charts) and this model is at the top of the pack when it comes to read/write performance.

Is it worth getting a seagate 7200 200Gb on ebuyer, and selling the standard drive on ebay, that way you will be sure to get the cooler running segate, and save money at the same time! :D you could do this with the memory too?

I got the stock 160gb 7,200 drive, its good and only sometimes produces a ticking noise. Might have to get a larger sized hard drive one day as i only have around 65 gigs left!

    Thanks for your replies!
As far as i see, whatever I get is good? Because one says that Fujitsu make a little noise, the other says no noise. One says Hitachi are wonderfull, the other says no good. Apparently only Seagate is godd for everybody.
And anyway, I see that there are many possibilities, not only one model of 16o and one of 200... So, the real question become where there are the best chances to get a better HD (or the best one), if in the 160 or in the 200 giga. And, as Sonic says, if the 200 is faster by definition (not sure to have understood why. or, better, I am sure i did NOT understood why :D )
Ops... Hey, I can't hear any noise there. Anyway, that little click is fine sometimes. i would not pay 80 euro to take it off! :D
"put" mean that you bought it in a second moment? I must tell you that I understood very few of your theory, which otherwise sounds interesting... I will have a T7700, and to avoid bottlenecks i would like to get a fast HD...
Which brand? This could become also a pint of reference, if people post comments on their HD quality... But, tell me, how can it be that you used so much space? Is Vista so big??? I alsways has XP, which is not so big.

Sonic, i think I got you! I thought that a 200giga HD was bigger (something more inside). i understand that is just more dense, more infos on same space, so same infos on less space, so less time to read same infos.
Anyway I still not understand why it should be less fragmented.
But I am thinking that I better spend in the T7700 instead of a 200giga. Later I can put a 10000rpm when available! While changing processor is quite expensive. And as i think to keep the note for 3 years or 4, even if now 200mhz more (T7700 vs T7500) are insignificant, tomorrow can be good...
