Hi
I bought a XPS M1710 (512mb 7950 GTX) about 3 years ago second hand, when i purchased it, The fans would go crazy when playing games like Stalker.
So i took it apart and it was chock full of chunky sponge dirt around and inside the fans which i cleaned throughly.
I also decided that while the M1710 is open i shall clean both the CPU and GPU and apply some Arctic Silver 5 Gel to both.
Since then the M1710 has worked good i have only played about 3 games on it Half 2, EP1,EP2
Then last month i installed Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow not really a demanding game for the M1710
All was fine then about 2 weeks into playing the game the screen went garbled, i thought is was a graphics driver problem
and restarted the XPS to try again. After 2 mins of playing the game, problem happened again both fans were working quietly, and i got a error message SEE PIC so i decided to do a HD DOS error scan for bad sectors, the screen got this green pattern during scan
Now all i get is a black screen
green pattern when doing HD DOS Scan

OK Is The GPU Fried And Is It Worth Opening Up The M1710 To Sort Out (Again!!)....Or Just Sell It As It Is As Spares
Thanks

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Sell it as spares. All the Nvidia GPUs for this model are defective and will crap out eventually. The high-end stuff like the 7950 will crap out faster too.
