    Hello,

I wanna buy loaptop and considering the XPS M1710:
    Here is spec:

    Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7400 (2.16GHz)
    512MB Nvidia Geforce Go 7950GTX
    160GB Hard Drive (5400)
    NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A
17 Inch UltraSharp Widescreen WUXGA Dispaly with TureLife
    2GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz

I'll run the game on 20" screen and would like to run it in full details and dont have smooth graphic all the time.

If someone is uding this laptop or with simlar spec could advice if wotlk is running on max details ? With good fps 60 or more all the time ?

    Thanks

I had the same specs before i changed laptops.

7950GTX card cant really play WoW at max settings. But its decent, max resolution, and everything max except shadows (minimum) and distance at medium. This should get you around 50~ while in combat and around 30-40fps in raids.

    Notebookcheck is wrong. It's bs.
Check the correct gpu-listing on the sticky.

And yes, 8600M GT (GDDR3) is slightly weaker ( very slightly) but if I were you, I would take XPS M1530, because it's really light and only 15.4" compared to the really old model XPS M1710 which is a heavy desktop replacement.

Also, if you plan to play WoW on a 1920x1200 screen or so, then you'll have to get something more powerful than 7950GTX. I would suggest getting 1440x900 screen with 8600M GT (on XPS M1530) then you should be able to max things out on that resolution.

WoW runs beautifully on the 1530, I average 45-50 FPS in Northrend, on full settings. Except for shadows, those kill the best of video cards for some reason.

I have basically the same specs as you have listed in my M1710. WOW will play just fine at high rez. You will NOT get 60fps all the time but you will not really notice this either while you are playing the game as it will be smooth. I have played WOW on my XPSM1710 at 1920x1200 and have not had any issues. The 8600mGT is indeed slower than the 7950GTX and most only come with 256 megs of dedicated video memory. This is where you will run into probs at the 1920x1200 rez. The 7950GTX will surely whip the 8600 tail at these higher resolutions without a doubt. Trust me, I know. Also it is quite easy to OC that 7950 GTX and get MUCH better framerates in all of your games. BTW, how much would you be paying for said beast? -Goodspeed

Thanks for all feedback I guess I'll stick to XPSM1710 because of better graphic card. Also at the moment im looking for some other notebooks which will provide similar level of wow game expierience as xps m1710.
    Thanks

8600gt is not for 3d games at high resolution.
    7950gtx is.

Ok i bought it and must say that WoW Wotlk looks amazing on this laptop. Also i couldnt max out all the details so shadows has to be switched off, distance set to 50% and i also had to lower little bit environment details, however honestly saying there is almost no difference when i change on max. With 1900x1200 i have on average 45-60 in Wotlk which mean smooth graphic all the time, 50-80 with instances, raids and 80 in old continent. So besically i spent 1/3 price of 1730 or alienware and have great funn. Thanks again for all feedback,
