I just wanted to get some opinions on the 17" 1900x1200 screen that comes on the M1710. Do any of you think this resolution is too high for a 17" screen?

I have a Dell 24" LCD monitor with this same resolution (1900x1200) and I think the resolution suits this size very well. I can't imagine having the same resolution at 17"... Doesn't it make everything look too small? I'd love to hear opinions from some M1710 owners.

my 15.4 is 1680 x 1050, I use normal fonts and small icons, I like it a lot , I have a 19" ws lcd on my desktop thats 1440 by 900, it used to seem pretty sharp till I got this, its color rendition is still a good bit better though

You dont have to have it at 1900x1200, but it is a nice option if you can read the text when resolution is that high. Its great for 2 full pages of document side by side. But I would say 1680x1050 is good enough for 17" for a laptop...I am using that setting for my Asus 15.4".

wuxga is great. i have it on a 15.4" and i wouldn't go back to anything less.

you may not like it although, if you're already running it on your LCD, you at least understand the advantages and disadvantages already.

NOTE : you WON'T be able to run it in a lower resolution as some of the above posters have said. technically, you can, but everything will be fuzzy and a little distorted. not something you'll want to be doing at all.

If you have seen WSXGA+ on a 15.4" before, then that would have about the same size text as a 17" WUXGA. I used a WUXGA screen on the Dell XPS, I thought it was spectacular and the text was fine.
Screen resolution is personal preference; I'd try to make your way to a Dell Kiosk and see if they have any models on display with a WUXGA.
