Maybe should have been posted on the gaming thread, but I wanted an XPS M1710 owner to see this...
Just purchased an M1710 (T7600 and 7950 GTX)...
When anandtech reviewed the machine last year, it got around 15 fps at 1920x1200 and around 27 fps at 1280x800 on Supreme Commander...the review didn't mention what settings were used on Supreme Commander and I don't know what settings are available...
I'm trying to decide if I should purchase this game...I don't mind limiting the total number of units in the options (if this option exists) or turning down the resolution and turning off the eye candy...
Can any M1710 owner tell me if Supreme Commander is playable (I usually define playable as avg fps > 30 fps with only occasional dips below 20 fps) on their machine and what settings you're using? (I guess I can always download the 1.1 GB demo, but I was curious if anyone has it up and running on their M1710.)
And the same question for GRAW 2 (some game review sites have said it has 'torturous' system requirements)...couldn't find any reviews with the M1710 and GRAW 2...and I would prefer to avoid the 1.8 GB demo download if anyone here has successfully played it on an M1710...
If I understand the M1710 reviews correctly, it will struggle with Supreme Commander, Oblivion, World in Conflict, GRAW 2, and most definitely Crysis...of those, I really only would like to be able to play GRAW 2 and Supreme Commander...
Thanks...
PS. My M1710 is running XP with 94.22 nVidia drivers from the Dell website. Dell just released the 174.31 drivers, and I'm willing to upgrade, but not sure if they will help performance much.

You should see if the games have playable demos you can download first. Most games do and it is an easy way to find out how they will run on your system.

Thanks...
Both of them do...and I will download them tonight when I go to bed...
There's an auction ending on eBay in a couple of hours with a good price on a bundle including both those titles...bundle's not worth it if those two titles are going to lag even with all the options turned down... -
I picked up the bundle so I'll let everyone here know how they run sometime next week...(if anyone really cares)...
