I'm interested in purchasing an XPS M1710 notebook, but I think I just missed the really good deals by a couple weeks.

All of the coupons I've found that are available for dell notebooks are only for Inspirons, even the epp coupons. (I am eligible for the epp pricing through work.) I even talked with a dell representative who told me dell doesn't offer any deals on XPS systems "because of how they're built", except for financing options.

I guess my question is, is it worth waiting to buy one, or should I just get it from someone from e-bay who sells them for a few hundred less than dell?

I don't mind waiting even a month or two if I can get a great deal (even 30% or 35% would make me really happy). But if the price will be the same in September as it is now, I'd rather just get it now.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

It's true Dell never issues coupons on the XPS machines so don't wait for those. They do adjust pricing and marketing strategies. Intel is supposed to have cut their prices on Core Duo processors to manufacturers this week. I'd give it two weeks and see if the price has moved. If it's still about the same after that, you're wasting your time waiting. eBay is always an option, but be careful -- buy from a Power Seller and get information and machine numbers from the buyer so you can verify the machine and warranty.

I'm in the same boat as you and have about until September to purchase. I'm just keeping my hopes up until then :)

its rare, but once in a while Dell does allow coupons for the XPS model. I know because right before the July 4th holiday, I bought a 30% off coupon on ebay. it was good for the usual Inspiron models but also good for the XPS models. it was only good till July 4th. As for the M1710. Since its release, I wanted one, but couldnt rationalize paying around four grand for a laptop. Between the 30% off coupon along withan additional 12% EPP discount, I ended saving a boat load of doe and went ahead pulled the trigger on one.

If you sign up for the epp emails they send out special coupons everyonce in a while. I got one last month that was 30% off XPS or Inspirons. You have to subscribe in your dell account to get them though.

Thanks. I did sign up for the epp e-mails. I guess it's just a matter of time before they come out with some for xps. Does anyone know how often they offer these coupons? If they just offered them at the beginning of July, when was the last time before that?

Also, would dell have some big Labor day sales at the end of August/beginning of September for XPS systems? If so, I'd be willing to wait for it.

I bought my D820 with that same 20% off any computer coupon-both the XPS and Latitude systems almost never have coupons, but that one was for any system, I was debating weather to go M1710 or D820, but in the end I decided to go with portability and loose some graphics power (I dont game enough to justify it...)
