So I'm getting old.... Should say XPS M1730 cant play games.

    Hi all,

I bought myself an XPS M1730 for 30 euro (yes really). The machine itself was dusty. Cleaned it all out reapplied thermal paste on the CPU and GPU's. Temperatures are excellent now. However the problem is when I start a game (for this instance I used Star Trek Online). The game starts shows my character (with ingame graphics and such) but when I want to continue logging in to the game it quits with a DirectX error.

Are there other users of the M1730 that have Windows 10 running without troubles? Drivers for the videocards go up to 342.01. Does anyone have any newer ones?

    System info:

    Processor: T9500
    Mem: 4GB DDR2
Harddisks: 2x 200GB 7200rpm disks (soon to be replaced by SSD's)
    Optical: Blueray disk/DVD writer
    VGA: 9800GTX SLI
    Screen: 17" WUXGA 1920x1200
    OS: Windows 10 Pro 64Bit

Also tested with Furmark that ran ok. Temps went to about 90-91 degrees celsius. Also cant switch on the SLI in Windows 10 because of black screens and the M1730 hanging itself up.. Damn old drivers...

I believe Star Trek Online uses DirectX 11 and your GPUs do not support that. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if you would run into RAM issues, as 4GB is really not enough. It is pretty much the bare minimum to run Windows 10 (yes, it can run with less. No, you don't want to do that).

Your laptop is just really old.
