Hi. I just bought a nice microphone in the hope that it will improve speech recognition via Dragon Naturally Speaking. But I am going crazy trying to get the microphone, plugged into the micro jack on the left-hand side, to be recognised as the sole audio input device. In Device manager I have disabled the integrated webcam/mike and also (when that didn't help) the 'hands-free bluetooth audio' (no idea what that does). But still, even without the microphone plugged in the laptop is picking up my voice loud and clear (but not clearly enough for DNS). Anyone know what device is still picking up my voice, with the mike unplugged?

Once I've managed to stop any other audio/voice input I can concentrate on the microphone settings, but at the moment whatever else is picking up my voice is being used by preference and the audio test in DNS tell me the sound quality is unacceptable. In Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices, the Audio tab shows playback and recording as using SigmaTel Audio, same in the voice tab (playback and recording). I've set volumes for Microphone and Digital Mic, but when I use the basic MS Sound Recorder to test input, it carries on recording my voice even after I pull the microphone out of the socket.

If someone could tell me what is going on here I'd be grateful!!

    Thanks,

    Martin

.. there's a built in SigmaTel microphone?? Not part of the integrated webcam? If that is what is picking up my voice, how do I disable it? Can only see codecs in Device Manager and nothing in Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices ...

    Using XP SP3 BTW....
