Hey there. I'm new here. I need big time help. My brand new Dell XPS M1730 (with 8700m SLI + PhysEx) is cr*p. :) But, seriously, the first time I turned it on it quickly went to 100% CPU usage constantly - turns out this was the TrusterInstaller.exe Windows Update process causing this issue. Killed it and now it runs pretty good when idle.

Now, my big problem is that when I play games (specifically Sims 2 in this case), after 30-60mins of playing it the CPU usage hits 95-100% constantly and I have to quit out. I'm only playing it on Medium settings with a conservative resolution. Has anyone else had problems with the M1730? I have tried it with both SLI on and off and it still has problems. I've killed alot of unnecessary background processes (Windows Search etc) and that helped with system idle time but not with games.

I've sent an e-mail to Dell but haven't heard anything yet.

I need some help/advice big time. I might post this in the Games section too.

Anyway, nice to meet you all :p

When you say it hits 100%, do you mean the game itself becomes laggy/framey? Or do you mean that you just notice that the processor is running at 100%, because that's quite normal when you're running anything graphic intensive.

when you got the lappy, did you reformat it and get rid of all the DELL crap that wastes a load of space/CPU power?

Cos it might be all the bloatware running in the background causing problems!

I didn't remove the Dell bloatware on mine and my T7500 usually stays below 50% on games.

There must be something wrong in your system I think.

I didn't reformat but I disabled alot of the crappy dell services and such.

I'm gonna try fiddling again tonight and see how I go.

Thanks for all your help everyone!

one thing to check is that you have speedstep enabled in the bios. Some people have had the system ship with it diasbled and it basically runs the cpu and machine at 50% of what it can do... worth a look :)
