The problem of flickering is caused due to "Power Miser". Access NVIDIA control Panel and Go to the power miser settings. Turn it off. Now you can watch videos full screen without flickering. (Make sure you are in the Advanced Section of the NVIDIA Control Panel)

    hi everyone

I got the exact same issue about the screen flickering (only on battery, only in full screen, in any DVD player) on a 6 months old M1730 running XP and a 8700M GT SLI. A fresh reinstallation of the O/S, Bios, mediadirect and drivers failed to correct the issue.

On the phone with Dell's technician yesterday, we found that the problem does not occur when the video drivers are not loaded during a selective startup (msconfig, services, uncheck nvidia drivers). That finding led the technician to order a replacement GPU and request service. Unfortunately, i have a Return to Depot type warranty so it will take some time... I will keep you posted about the corrective action when I get my computer back. I insisted that the tech add specific testing instructions to ensure I do not get the computer back with the same problem, as some users on this forum did...

Dell's technician has been great and friendly.

Hopefully, it will require a 8800 GTX upgrade :p

Found out that disabling nvsvc (Nvidia display drive service) in msconfig services prevents the problem from happening and allows watching full screen dvd on battery power.

Check "screen flickering on XPS M1730 on battery power" forum for details.
