Ah well, remember 260's are great cards too...and they'll produce less heat I guess... Nice to hear you can keep the old system until you've received the new one.
-
-
Aye, it is a nice replacement and should be far superior to the 8800Ms. Obviously 280Ms would have been ideal, but hey, you win some, you lose some. Sure, I could take it further but I'd rather not run in to another wall; sometimes you do need to compromise.
I got the QX9300 which is a fantastic upgrade and Win7 Ultimate installed, and obviously the other components are upgrades, so I'm not complaining with the replacement. Just a shame it took so much heartache to get to that stage.
And if what I've heard about the system is accurate, the cooling is fantastic, so there's plenty of scope for overclocking if needs be. -
I didn't even get that Quad processor, Daul core here...
And Vista. They told me I have to buy a Win 7 copy. Kinda weird though, I thought ALL computers sold after june 26 get a free upgrade possibility. Maybe it's because I don't actually buy one but gets swapped... Who knows. -

Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
For all practical intents and uses, and by this, I mean actual gaming and not 3dMark06 and all this other crud, the 260m in SLi will virtually do everything that the 280m SLi does. I just prefer to argue for the 280s because if you can get 'em, that's better, and we know that regardless of there being very little difference between the two cards, the actual market price difference will be staggering; it will cost an arm and a leg to pay for the 280m as a separate card and then self-upgrade. You're virtually going to get the same performance with the 260m, so you're still gonna' do fine!
In the case of these new computers, it is the better CPU options that really count, and you've got gold with the QX9300! Enjoy! -

You may turn up a new order #. -
At the moment I'm not jumping around like a little kid, as I'm kind of waiting for something else to go wrong. Once I get my hands on it I've no doubt I'll be delighted with it.
I'd like to thank everyone else who posted advice in this thread as it really did help a lot with getting this resolved. To anyone still waiting, all I can say is good luck and keep at it! Thanks very much guys -

Does anyone that had their order cancelled know what production statge their order was in when it was cancelled?
I have no idea where my previous order was when it was cancelled for the "software config/wrong AV software" issue but my current in production order is in the "build" stage and I just noticed that the AV software that they insisted that I had to have (Norton's Gamer's Ed.) isnt even an option on Dell's website for their Alienware systems.
So, now I am worried they will cancel this order for the same reason as before if that is even possible after the order is actually being built. Anyway, that is my status right now. -
-
I never noticed anything beyond "In Production".. every time (unless it was so quick I didn't notice it over the course of an hour's period of time.. that's how often I check), it simply jumped from that straight to "Canceled". "Build" is a good thing, I would wager.
On a side note, order #4 got added to my order status last night, but it's configured very differently and minimally compared to the other 3. No mention of most of the stuff, including no AV software listed, and no name plate listed. Not sure whether to be worried or happy about that, but the rep I'm working with said I see a lot less so that the offending SKU that canceled it prior won't be in there lol. She said it should be shipped sometime next week. Time will tell. -
Hi Guys,
I really need some reassurance here. Ok, so a few weeks back I was on my laptop messing about lying on my bed surfing the web, left it on my bed overnight and when I woke up in the morning and went to turn the laptop on, the screen was basically messed up, i must have hit it in my sleep or something. Anyway, I took my laptop to my local laptop store and they replaced the screen for £240.00 and I got it back last Friday.
Now I have used it a bit over the past week but today I was just on the internet, then I went to put the laptop on the floor with the power in the back and I just noticed the screen going off, like it was auto hibernating. I then went to turn the laptop on and it won't turn on. The blue light which shows the charger is in is lit, and when I press the power button, the blue light comes on for about 5 seconds then goes off again.
Now this seems a bit of a coincidence, this happening shortly after the new screen was put on, could it be some kind of loose wire, or the screen has come loose some other way. If it isn't the screen then it is some ty, annoying coincidence.
Any of you boys reassure me about this? I am going to take it back to the laptop shop so the guy can give it a look over. -
-
I don't even use my laptop without a cooling pad anymore. -
I actually called the order status # that I saw provided here on this forum and got the "build" stage update. Which means I guess that it went from pre-production to kitting then to build.
OK, how completely ridiculous is it that our tech/warranty support actually puts orders together that have incorrect SKU's? -
Don't even get me started on the incorrect SKUs. Being the 4th order now, my patience level is completely depleted. -

As you can see I do not have the Blu-ray nor the Cyberlink and Nero. However my AV is the same as was on the last order you had that was cancelled.
Not sure what to make of that. I went over, and over this with the rep that called and confirmed this order and he assured the AV wouldnt be a problem this time around.
Hmmmmmmm.... -
my new order, even though they were supposed to be expediting it, is still just in processing, not sure what that means. My other one was in the "build stage"
-
well im having the same gpu issues as most people it appears, although ive had mine for 2 years now without replacing them, but now i guess its only a matter of time before the insides start to melt, my palms are actually burning as i type this...

Yeah I wouldn't fret over that, I'm more worried now because my current order is only:

Granted, it's straight up Win7, but there's no AV software mentioned (possibly good but I dunno), and especially worrying is there's no exchange documentation. Also no mention of the nameplate. She assures me this one should ok, but I have a feeling this one will be tossed out too. You can't configure an m17x on the website without AV. -
Also, do you mean "In Production"? I've never seen a system exchange in a "Processing" status, because that status usually means billing information hasn't been verified/taken place, and that's not a step of an exchange. -
-
-
it says production, but when i call it in it says processing. On the automated order status checker. yes it was in build stage and got cancelled, they said because the form got filled out wrong. It was in the build stage for 4 days before that happen, it is pissing me off but what else can i do?
-
One of the things that worries me is that I was told that the fact mine was built with Vista was one of the issues it was cancelled, I actually have it in chat session logs. Yet, my new one still has Vista.
Which leads me to believe that they are making $#!+ up.
Maybe is is all just a crap shoot at this stage of the game. -
Odd. You would think a misconfiguration would be caught in the "Kitting" stage, when they're gathering parts. I've yet to see one of my orders get beyond "In Production", unless I'm checking the wrong place. I just check on my order status page.

Call that number and follow the instructions. If you say "learn more" after it tells you the stage it well tell you the estimated ship date base don your stage (which can change from call to call- I called three times in a row and got 3 different ship dats and only 2 of the 3 were close together) -
-
-
-
mine is still showing in production online it was ordered on Oct. 28/09. Has anyone actually got an ETA or received their system yet?
-
-
-
I realized I didn't say "continue" to hear my estimated ship date on my order. Was put in Thursday evening at 7pm.. the automated status system says it estimates it will ship this coming Monday. Highly skeptical on this one.
-
On a side note, after all the recent discussion of cancellation while in build status I logged on to support chat in order to have them verify that all was ok with my order. The initial rep was useless and I had to tell him not to do a thing regarding my order in fear of him screwing it up. He promised not to. Then he says that his supervisor came to him and wanted to talk to me. So, the supervisor gets on and what do know but it is the first supervisor that took my case over several weeks ago and originally told me that he thought I should look into getting a replacement. He had remembered me and checked on my order and confirmed that it was currently being built. I ask about the order that was cancelled and he said that as far as he knew orders only ever got cancelled when they were the build stage when and if a certain part was unavailable. He said he would have to do some research on why my first order was cancelled but I told him not to worry about it (again, fear of jinxing this order etc) but he tells me he would keep and eye on this order and track it and that I could call him for updates and with questions. I asked him to look over the order and he said that everything looked ok and he saw no reason for any problems.
Anyway, thought that was interesting and and kind of weird that I chatted that a supervisor that was working on my original service call. And I have all that in a chat session log in case this order mysteriously goes wheels off. -

Hey guys,
I am currently in the process of a system exchange. Dell calls me today and offers me a xps 1640 or a xps 8000 configured any way I want and says an alienware is out of the question. I told them I wasn't interested and wanted a full refund. They couldn't guarantee a full refund, but said I would get some money back. I spoke to the supervisior and told him that if I could get a full refund, that I would buy a new alienware. He said he would work on a resolution and get back to me. If that doesn't work, not sure what im gonna do. I dont think the two computers they offered me are no way equal to my m1730. -
Think it may depend on your M1730 configuration. If you don't have SLI, I doubt they're going to offer you an m17x. What's your current system specs?
-
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
Was your machine purchased directly from Dell?
What was the system configuration?
Based on your answers, we can determine whether you're entitled to a full refund, or a proper exchange-system. -
-
Finally been able to get some information about my system replacement...
It has gone in production, to be delivered within 2 weeks...
Took 3 calls with Dell reps to get the Order Status which they did not email me before. Now let's hope it doesn't get cancelled.
For all the EU folks in here, keep in mind it can take 3 weeks to be delivered, according to Dell Europe. I'm in Germany myself. -
-
jabbok, I too have that same wireless 1510 - US Only on mine, i'm not worried bout it at all since its not something that should cause problems, I just hate how bloody long they are taking on this delivery.
