Hey Guys,
I love tinkering with laptops and Been looking for a Project XPS M1730 and When i got home 20day from work Found one: What do you think?![]()
$700 So i Bought it being the X9000 alone goes for $450 ish and the 8800GTX!
even if i have to bake them..
Specs:
Has a x9000 intel extreme processor @ 2.8 ghz, can be over clocked in the bi
8800gtx sli video card
4gb ram, DVD reader / writer, 17 inch screen, full keyboard, two 200 gb hard drives in Raid 0
Description From E-bay auction:
Has a x9000 intel extreme processor @ 2.8 ghz, can be over clocked in the bios to 3.4
8800gtx sli video card
4gb ram, DVD reader / writer, 17 inch screen, full keyboard, two 200 gb hard drives in Raid 0
(It is currently working, however not at full capacity. It does not recognize the power adapter completely, it will power the system, however it will not charge the battery, and it will slow the system down. A replacement would probably fix the problem, I'm not sure.
Also, whenever I tried to install video card drivers, it would boot to a blank screen, but when I removed them, it would boot into the operating system perfectly fine. And the F3 key has been lifted off the key board, but it probably can be corrected.
I am not computer expert, so I dont know exactly what the problem is, sold for parts / repair.)
So in the End maybe Motherboard and Video card?
What do you think it seems like a decent deal?
Thanks..

I want to do the Internal GPU Fan Controller MOD Being this is Out of Warranty -
Wait a few days till someone answers you
Is this an item on ebay? -
This problem happened with my M1730. Dell told me it was some sensor on the motherboard that causes the issue not the brick of a PSU. My 1730 was under warranty so Dell replaced the mobo. -
I will research what i can being I won't have it until next week sometime -
You can try the following:
- turn the laptop off
- remove the power cord from the adapter and wait until the blue light goes off
- bend the cable, which goes from the adapter to the laptop, in an a 90 degree angle close to the laptop connector.
- hold the cable and plugin the power cord.
- if the battery light turns on, it is charging again and you have a cable/adapter problem (note that if you now boot the laptop, it runs at full speed)
- if the battery is not charging, remove power and try to bend another piece of the cable or in another angle. Most of the times the broken wire resides near the laptop connector or close to the adapter itself
Success! -
Thanks Jergo Sounds Promising,I will Definitely Give this a Shot when i do receive it and post the result.
I found a Good Deal on a Spare Motherboard incase that it the problem and good to have one too..
Anyone have Any Ideas on Why it would Boot to a Blank Screen with the Video drivers Failing cards or bad drivers?
Thanks.. -
Ok i have an UPDATE....
Ok I now have the M1730 and First thing installed Win 7 Being No Specific drivers i just Used The Vista Drivers and so far so good..
The 8800GTX was not showing in HW
properties So removed stripped and baked the board @380 degrees For 10 min
put MX-3 Thermal paste on the GPUs And they are Alive in SLi!
The X9000 Will not go past 1500Mhz And batt light just blinks red -blue-blue
Tried the Flexing of the cable etc Opened the Psu up checked solder etc Nothing.
Had a coworker stop by my house that Owns a M1730 Fired it up with His Power brick and It Runs@ Full Speed and begun charging. Wish i could have held onto it for longerlol
So that was that issue for now.
Good Call JERGO
I have Ordered one and will have to wait while Painfully Slow it runs a 2.9 in CPU on windows experience
and OC doesn't work due to the power supply..
