I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this already, but is an m1730 likely to work with an EmPower plug on an airplane at all? I'm flying to london via british airways very soon and was wondering if the apparently 75 watts provided by the airplane plugs would power any part of my beast at all. I could even deal with just mediadirect, but I'd rather not shell out money for the power inverter if nothing works at all. Does anyone have any experience in this area? Thanks!

:-O Highly unlikely. That is unless you go and undervolt your CPU and dsiable every single bit on the notebook that you dont need. Then you might have a chance. What specs by the way?

    Bone White XPS M1730
    Core 2 Duo Extreme X9000 @ 2.8GHz
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
    17" UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WUXGA
Dual GeForce 8800M GTX with 1GB GDDR3 Memory
    400GB (2x200GB) 7200RPM
    Blu-ray / DVD / CD Burner
    Windows Vista Ultimate Edition SP1

I'm really curious if disabling things would even really help. Does anyone know what kind of power is pulled when booting right into mediadirect? This is certainly not a laptop for people who travel a lot but I was hoping to enjoy myself on my first trip out of the country. Hopes are not high, sadly. :( Thanks for the input!

Would also be interested to hear --- I tried lots of different power supplies/airline adapters on a XPS M170 back in the day - and no dice...

Won`t happen. The power supply is 230W for a reason...
    75W will be less than 1/3 ...
Cut 1 core of the CPU, 1 GPU, 1 Hdd, disable every other item and totally undervolt EVERYTHING.
And still it won`t be enough :)
