    Hello,

I have a problem with my Dell XPS M1730 laptop. If I turn it on with everything connected except the hdd, it only gives 2 beeps and the screen stays black. If you press F1, it repeats the 2 beeps. I think that 2 beeps mean that there is no disk to boot from. If I connect the HDD, I don't get the 2 beeps but just nothing happens. The HDD Led flashes a few times and that's it. After a minute it restarts. The CPU fan is spinning when the CPU gets hot, the GPU fan isn't spinning at all, and the GPU only gets a little bit warm.

If I press FN+Power, I first see the caps-lock led flashing. Then I get the following beep code: (A is the lowest tone and C the highest tone) A-B-C-B-A (pause) A-B-C-B-A (pause) A-B-C-B-A (pause) A-A-A-A (pause) A (pause) A (pause). And that codes keeps repeating.

If I press D+Power, It shows colors on the LCD, and after that it's just starting up normal as i described in the first part.

I really don't know what the beep code means or what's wrong with the laptop. So I hope someone knows what is means., Thanks!

You can keep pressing keys from now till judgment day and it will never work because it is more than likely your graphics card has failed. I got a pre-production xps m1730 and had the same problem that was solved by buying a new card. For the low end 8700m GT you will end up spending anywhere from $50 to $220 and a little more for the vastly better 9800m GT sli. Typical problem that was common to the era and add a little neglect when it comes to maintenance then it bricks pretty easy.
