Anyone with inside information please let us know!! :p
I love everything about the new XPS 1730 but would really prefer one single powerful video card vs. SLI since i'm not a serious gamer. Battery life should be better too with the single card solution. But if 8800 is still a long way away then I guess I'll go for the SLI. Any estimate on how soon 8800M will be out?

um, probably by the christmas season will be anybody's bet. Although, if I had any guess, any XPS 1730 series will force a SLI on you.

Since Nvidia's new 65nm 8800GT desktop GPU will be released end of this month, my guess is that we'll see notebook GPU's based on that card in late november (8800GTS) and late december (8800GTX)

I doubt that Nvidia isnt goin to release even release the 8800M
Befoe the 8800M comes the 8700M GTX defiantely with higher VRAM and probably more frequency

    XPS 1730 Manual:
NOTE: Your computer comes in different configurations with different video controller
    cards.
Video controller: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS
    Video type discrete video adapter
    Data bus PCI Express x16
    Video memory 256 MB
    LCD interface LVDS
TV support NTSC or PAL in S-video, component, and
    composite modes

Maybe you're right about the 8700M GTX/ULTRA, but keep in mind that the working name for the 8700M GT was 8800 GS. If NVIDIA decides to release a
256-bit memory bus GPU, my guess is that it's probably going to have the 8800 label.
