I can get a good deal on a Dell XPS M2010 but it only has a 256MB ATI Mobility RADEON X1800 Graphics Card. Can I upgrade? If so how much can I upgrade to? Would Dell help me out on this since this is the only available GPU from them???

Most likely, no.
The M2010 is basically a barely portable laptop, laptop GPU's are seldom upgradeable. If this were upgradeable, Dell doesn't even create a better card for this unit, so there is no point. You are stuck.
Read the General gaming info sticky in the gaming section for GPU info. -
No. The GPU cannot be upgraded beyond what Dell offers.

I spoke to a Dell sales rep, and he said that your are able to upgrade the graphics card, even to an 8800m GTX. According to the rep, if you install the card with the help of Dell Tech Support, it will not void the warranty.
Does the 8800m GTX use 37 watts of power? -
Aka the Dell Rep has no ****ing idea what he is talking about. . .
Most likely scenario...
You buy the 8800M GTX. You call Dell Tech Support. They tell you that it is not compatible with the systems hardware whether or not its true. You return the card. You just wasted 5 hours of your life
I always found those Dell 2010's really ugly anyway
**Excuse me bad language**

I am not giving my personal opinion, I am only restating what the Dell rep said, which may not be the entire truth.
But, I think that it is upgradeable. I talked to two different reps, I highly doubt that they were both wrong -
I used a bit of sarcasm in that. Im not a big fan of Dell. But I still think you might as well post this in the Dell Area of this forum and ask some possible owners of this laptop what they think or know from experience.

Unless this upgrade was offered in the original configuration of said notebook looking at problems, BIOS, Thermal design to mention a couple. Is DeLL going to even sell you the 8800m GTX? I doubt, too much demand too new on the market. DeLL will not help you upgrade out of specs, the people above told you what is going on, you talked to two people who don't have a clue. We know it is not your opinion, but it is not going to happen. DeLL will not support XP on a system that did come with it, no way they are going to play with this upgrade. If these fools are so helpful how much is DeLL going to sell you a 8800m GTX for? When they agree to sell you one repost and we will talk. DeLL has proprietary plugs so you can't get from other sources.

Dell reps have no clue about their own products or company, especially the sales reps. They told me a long time ago that one of their XPS laptops I was interested in used a "special" type of RAM thus I had to buy their overpriced crap as opposed to talking Dell down on price or upgrading aftermarket. Needless to say, I took my money elsewhere for that purchase.

Hold your horses folks. Did anyone who commented here even open up a M2010 to see what's inside?
I opened up my M2010 and unlike the M1210 and M1330s I've opened, the graphics card is not permanently soldered to the motherboard. It is actually attached to the mobo through a cable. Looks upgradeable IMO, so long as the new vid card is compatible with the mobo. -
Well its 6 months later, so I think the Original poster totally forgot about it.
Straddy, if you have any pictures of the insides, than we can confirm if its upgradeable or not. If it is upgradeable, than we will know to mention it next time the m2010 comes up.
I know for a fact you cant upgrade an x1800 to an 8800mGTX, and if the graphics card was upgradeable the fastest graphics card it could most likely accept is the 7900GS. I say this cause the other 17" made at this time could be upgraded from an x1800 to a 7900GS. I am sorry I dont remember the model of the 17" laptop.

Just FYI, but Dell uses proprietary slots for their graphics cards. (Assuming they are not soldered that is)
So unless there is an upgrade for the M2010 available online @ Dell...well, no upgrades are possible.
This thread is pretty old, so I'm gonna close it...
