I dont know where this sound is coming from or why its happening, and it worries me, because ther is a good chance its not good. I have an XPS M1530 and it seems to be making a random short length high pitch sound. It has done it twice now in the last 2-3 days. I dont know where its coming from. It did it once before my computer was fully booted, and also when the computer was on and running. For background information, I am getting my motherboard replaced this week because of a broken Ethernet port and my track pad because its not to good. Just thought you guys should know that just in case those could fix whatever you think is wrong. Can you guys please tell me why my XPS is doing this, because I am kind of worried.
Just a clarification, but this is not the hard drive whine that other have a problem with. And also, another facotr ruled out is the fact that my speakers were muted both times.

google -> "cpu whining"
If it's gone under continuous load, then it might be this one. -
I said that it is not a whine, it is a beep, like the beep the system speaker would produce, but there is nothing that "should" make that beep at that point. I have been looking around and seeing some stuff about the hard drive could be doing it, but they had a toshiba brand, and i have a samsung. Also, when you get this beep alot of times it means something is trying to warn you.

Since "high pitched sound == whine" and without you ruling out cpu whining, it is reasonable to link to it. -
I heard the same thing the other day when I was moving my laptop, kinda went "beep beep" quickly, and wasn't the same sound as a bios error sound, much softer.
I thought it was because I installed a new hdd and when I moved it around I rotated the laptop upside down while it was on.
The second time I heard it was when it was just sitting on the table.
Still don't know what it is.
