Hey All, I couldn't find any related thread so I thought I'd start one to get an idea of In-Production to Shipping times. My L702X just went into "In Production" yesterday and I'm curious what kind of time frame I'm looking at.
To get an idea for everyone buying one, if you can post your Order date to Recieve Date, and what country you were ordering from. Cheers![]()

My #6 in my signature was ordered on June 10/11 and it showed in production on the 13th, shipped on the 18th. 3 days later the purolator tracking page still only shows it in transit in the US this morning. Destination Canada

My US order (purchase from and ship to):
6/16 - Order placed
6/17 AM - Went into production
6/21 - Still in production -
Received a follow up call from dell a few hours ago confirming that it is in production, with an estimated ship date of the 27th and that it should in-fact be at my door on the 30th.
Needless to say, I've heard people on here claim to of gotten their order up to a week early.
And BTW, I'm in Houston, home of this years most pathetic team the MLB. -
UK here.
Ordered my (now returned 702x) on the 3rd June. Was processed, in production and delivered on the 9th June. Custom build too. -

The casino already did enough damage to me for the day, I don't need you kicking me in the testes eathier! L'auberge was enough for one day. -
Placed my order for a xps 15z on June 13th at 5am CST i received it the next day at 2pm. I was totally amazed.
-
now its just 'rinse and repeat'....
i really didn't know what to expect and when my system arrived it was worth the wait -
-
Is "In Production" where the payment get's authorized or is that stage the building?
I ordered Monday morning at 9am, and by the afternoon it went into "In Production". Today they called to verify the payment... strange no? -
In production usually means just that, but that being said, one of my orders went from order processing to in production in just 2 minutes though. When it says in production it is in line to be built and cannot be cancelled at this point.
-
Ordered mine on the 17/6/2011 received 23/6/2011

SHIPPED! *jumps up and down screaming like a little girl* -
Here's mine that is totally burning my butt:
I ordered a dell XPS 17 last month but changed my mind on a few options so I ended up returning and re-ordering it but here is the path of the first one to compare to what I'm currently waiting for and you will notice it even has an extra day in there cause the stupid driver forgot to come to my house. Seriously, I know this because when purolator shows up they leave a knocker and we have a pick up depot four blocks away that all my neighbourhood purolator stuff always gets dropped off at when no one is home:
2011/06/01 12:23 Delivered to XXXXXX at AT DOOR 0000 PRIVACY BLVD
2011/06/01 07:14 On vehicle for delivery
2011/05/31 14:02 Delivery Rescheduled
2011/05/31 07:57 On vehicle for delivery
2011/05/31 01:26 Shipment In Transit
2011/05/31 01:21 Shipment In Transit
2011/05/30 14:29 Shipment In Transit
2011/05/30 14:28 Picked up by Purolator
2011/05/26 17:37 In Transit in U.S.
Notice the first record is on the 26th...... that was a Thursday... the second record was only two business days later. You would think that the second laptop coming from the same delivery company from the same factory would follow the same delivery pattern right? WRONG!!!!!
Here is the path of the one thats currently being shipped to me (Signature #6)
2011/06/19 23:43 In Transit in U.S.
I'm coming up on FIVE Business days here and there's still no other entry in the courier system. The dang things ETA for delivery is supposed to be Friday.
All you usually hear on the forum is that they show up early. Just my luck, its going to be a week late or they ended up losing it on me.agggghhhhhhhhhh
PS
Below is a typical purolator delivery for me when no one is home so I KNOW the driver screwed up on my first one:
2011/06/09 15:15 Delivered to NIGEL RENA at RECEPTION of XXXXXX 000 000 CHANGED FOR PRIVACY BLVD
2011/06/09 13:46 Delivered to SALEEM at MAIL ROOM of XXXXXX 000-000 CHANGED FOR PRIVACY BLVD X0X0X0
2011/06/09 13:25 Attempted Delivery - Receiver Unavailable
2011/06/09 07:45 On vehicle for delivery
2011/06/09 06:25 Shipment In Transit
2011/06/08 22:25 Shipment In Transit
2011/06/08 22:19 Picked up by Purolator

The latest tracking shows that it departed the fedex facility in Dallas around 3 hours ago headed here to Houston. Fedex has moved my delivery date to the 24th, today!
-
Both of mine shipped from New Jersey (second one replacing the first...long story there). I am in Boston area, so yea. Next day delivery on both!
Dell has a lot of building areas around the US, typically I think they build at the one closest to you.
Have fun with the toy Chase. The sound is unreal...and I'm not an audiophile by any stretch. -
-
Yea you hear about how amazing the sound is on the XPS but until you actually hear it, you can't believe it. Then you hear it and can't believe it

Don't have my exact order details on my 15z...but it took about a week after my order was placed for it to ship, then 3 days to receive it so it was pretty quick. Recieved my free X-Box 360 3 days after my order was placed so I got that much sooner.
I also placed an order on my facial recognition software which Dell screwed up. It was never shipped (even though it was charged) until I called Dell myself. They also forget to send all the preinstalled drivers for the laptop, none of it was really necessary because I can get them all online but they screwed that up too. -
I also know they stock fast tracks in Dell warehouse locations in the US that were also made in China.
Anyone else notice where their XPS was manufactured? -
My XPS shipped!!! I ordered on Monday (June 20th) and it shipped Yesterday (June 24th) My EDD was July 4th!
I'm in Canada and ordered the Base L702X but with the 555M 3GB, and the 1080P LCD. Wasn't expecting it to ship out until mid next weekI have to work all weekend so this makes it a lot better!
-
-
-
They don't all ship from Texas, mine came from New Jersey. But I don't know about CA orders, that might be true.
-
-
-
granted i waited two weeks but my xps 17 was shipped on 4/25 and arrive on 4/26...guess that means i have been using it now for two months
lately most of my dell stuff has gotten to me overnight unless there was a weekend involved -
UPS scanned it on 8am on Saturday, not sure if that's when they
picked it up, or maybe when Dell scanned it for pickup Monday.
Either way, hopefully it comes within the next day or so... -
UK Order - L502x with plenty of upgrades

Incheon, Korea 28/06/2011 10:36 Departure Scan
Shanghai, China 28/06/2011 6:06 Departure Scan

Haha, it went to visit Borat. -
Ordered XPS 15 today. EDD is July 15 2011. Hoping for a quicker turnaround.
-
Just received the laptop
... well I picked it up my self since they couldn't deliver for a few more days due to a backlog. It was received in my city on Monday but it's been in the depot awaiting delivery... couldn't wait anymore so I drove over to pick it up.
I get to the depot and explain that I spoke with CS who said I could pick it up direct from the depot, even though they were supposedly sorting it for delivery tomorrow.
Lady at desk says "So you want me to go in the back and look for your package?? There are several hundred packages back there, and your's is being sorted." So I gave her one of those "And???" look's lol, and so the search begain... but only took her a few minutes. I swear on the way back I heard her drop it... and the box has one corner bashed in, but whatever.
Overall first impressions, it's AWESOME! It IS a AG LCD, though the Dell sales lady confirmed twice with me it would be glossy... It's not the biggest deal, although I prefer Glossy but my laptop at work (Lenovo T400) is AG and so are 99% of monitor's so I'm use to AG. Glad I upgraded to the
1080P LCD, well worth it, brightness etc, color's & viewing angles are good. As far as ppl saying they can see the AG coat... it's definitely there, but it doesn't bother me and it looks good.
The keyboard (typing on it) is awesome! but I've always loved Dell track pads and keyboards, soft touch to them. Track pad is a great size!
Size and weight impressions, well if you're buying a 17" you're obviously not expected netbook portability, but it's a great size and weight is good to carry. I only went with the 17" because of the 555m otherwise I would have gotten the 15" if they offered it.
VERY happy with my purchase so far, I'll check the ram slots in a bit and report back -
You will have 2 RAM slots, but stickers for 4...it's just how Dell is. Lie through their teeth to the customer about it, and pretend to be sorry when they call BS on you...
If they are too lazy to put a different sticker on the 2-slot boards, how come they aren't too lazy to go through the extra effort of making and stocking 2 boards that are identical aside from the clips they solder on??? SERIOUSLY??? What takes more effort and money here folks? 2 SKUs for essentially the same product that has caused endless confusion and lying amongst Dell about what is available or stock 1 SKU that is what they should be offering in the first place? -
yep... just confirmed I only have 2 memory slots. At first I ran CPUZ which reported 4 slots, and the Dell Diag program reported a max of 16GB ram... so you'd think it would have 4 slots then, but I ripped off the bottom to get the bad news
Oh well... nothing I can do now I guess. Would have been nice to upgrade this to 8gb soon.

-
Just a FYI, the LCD panel I got was Chi Mei Optoelectronics as stated on invoice.
-
I ordered an Alienware M18x, no usb3.0 problems, no overheating problems, no optimus problems because the user controls it now, I get a non-3d Glossy 1080P screen, no fan problems, no more dead end video card processor upgrade problems, and its only about 1 lb heavierand about 1000 bucks more
but I also get 16GB 1600Mhz ram for that price too and dual xfire vid cards.
-
Haha, great looking specs on the M18 though.
Hey, on second though.... My XPS is running great and I haven't had a single issue with it. How about we trade? -
I did get a far better system for only like 25 cents more.
