LOL, I LOVE your comparison. But that would mean an aluminum john boat would be worth about $70,000 vs a yacht for about $104,000 lol, I found a yacht price online for fun.......
    Yacht price

Maybe it's more like comparing a car you like with air conditioning installed. :) Upgrading to the alienware is ssssooooooo worth it. I recommend it to everyone who can. Plus, the M17's are even cheaper than the M18x

So how can I trade your XPS with you if I already sent it back? On a side note, I'm sure the Canadian depot is going to have a few more XPS17's on their site cause of me. hehehhehee

Pretty fast for me in CA. I ordered an xps 15 on June 26 and Fedex is bringing it to my home today :D Original estimate date is July 12, 2011.

Nigel, you went through like 6 XPS's and 2-3 months and still returned? What was wrong with the final one, or did Dell still get the order wrong?

TBH, I'm surprised Dell keeps taking them back, especially after 6! I'd think at some point someone at Dell hasn't said "enough's enough he's keeping this one" lol.

I'm lovin my L702X, though I do really wish Dell offered the B+RG LCD on the 17", or the 555 on the 15"... oh well.

Well most of them were Dell not sending what he ordered IIRC. So that's on them. But geez, I would have gone elsewhere (like Sager) if a company screwed up 4-5 orders in a row like they did and I was looking for an XFire system.

That's good to hear since I ordered mine on the 28th with a delivery date of July 13th. I'd like to get it early so I can send my faulty DV7T back to HP asap..lol

    I know, crazy eh?

The 6th one was supposed to be my 3rd one, but on the 6th one the USB 3.0 issues were weighing heavily on my mind. It felt like there was a problem on #6. Plus, never have I ever had a laptop where I would use my Logitech nano USB mouse and have the cursor stutter on my screen constantly like the XPS did?? Even my Dell 8600 doesn't have that problem.

I weighed the pros and cons of what an extra K gets you and the M18x just seemed to fit, for what I wanted better. I loved the look of the XPS 17, it's what attracted me to it in the first place but the performance, fit, quality just was not what I was expecting. :( Plus, the lights on the XPS drove my wife NUTS at bed time. I have my laptop by my bed on my night stand when I sleep and the blue light ring on the cord and the white XPS standby light blinking all night in a dark room............ aaagggghhhhhh are they ever bright and they did bug me a bit too.

So for an extra 1K I got included 16GB @ 1600 Mhz ram (520.00 option from Dell, ya I know, cheaper elsewhere), and capable of holding 32GB, wow. User controlled IGP on the Intel 3000 chip, NO bump on my lap from the battery, a 3MP camera, bumped up the processor one step, Glossy non 3D screen, 2 cross fire 6970 video cards that are upgradeable and don't get to 89 degrees in 1 hr of game play (A 400.00 option too) but I do lose my tv tuner :(

LOL, In my defense 3,4,5 were not my fault, they shipped me the wrong xps 17's. Stay away from upgrading fast track orders if the website ever allows it, you probably wont get what you ordered. :( And if DELL only was able to CANCEL orders while "in production" Order #1,2 would have never been made.

Order 1 I was uneducated and I wanted a 3D screen but ordered the 1080P non 3D with no tv tuner. (I thought it was a coaxial cable tv tuner and I thought 1080P only was 3D)

Order 2 was 3D with tv tuner (found out it was over air antenna, coool)

Order 3 was supposed to be non 3D, because I learned that you had no Intel 3000 IGP with the 3D model but I also got it with TV tuner..... turned out to be #6 was finally right order.

Order 7 my Alienware M18x............ I'm stuck with it cause I ended up getting it from an EPP plan through work for an awesome price, there is no 21 day return policy over there. 15% re stock fee applies if you want to return.
