I recently got an xps studio 16 with the fallowing specs:
720QM
4GB DDR3-1333
500GB @7200 RPM
Full HD (1080p)
5730 1GB
9 cell
130W adapter
I usually use it for heavy web browsing / word I am talking like 20 windows open ect. Pandora, ect. Some light video editing / Creating Home DVD's. And sometimes for gaming nothing over an hour, any games that my friends want me to try out.
Here is my issue, I agree it gets hot while gaming even more then video editing. Since usually I close my screen and let it run its 10-15 min to make the dvd ect. So the vent is wide open for the air to get out.
I never had an throttling issues, but should I open the computer up and replace the thermal paste on cpu, gpu, ect. So it runs better? Is it worth my time?
In idle i got 50C in a 70F Degree Room.

They are a lot of people misinformed about how to apply thermal paste. If you are going to do it, use as little as possible, just enough for the two ends to make contact. The point of thermal grease is to fill in the small micro holes in each of the surfaces, to provide full contact.
I'd be interested in some benchmarks that provide before and after results while idle and under load. -
will do when I do it, what thermal paste should I use, money is not really a big deal.

I might get
Newegg.com - Arctic Silver ACN-60ML (2-PC-SET) Thermal material Remover & Surface Purifier - Thermal Compound / Grease
to clean the old one off and then use
Newegg.com - Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - Thermal Compound / Grease -
The thermal material remove might be a waste of money if you already have isopropyl alcohol (often used as rubbing alcohol) and cotton swabs, tissues or even paper towels.
Before you do this could you give us before results? e.g. Played replay of Starcraft 2 or benchmark program X to test temps under load and then while idle.
AS5 according to benchmarks seems to be among the top, so it should be fine.
