Hi all!
So, I have a problem with the Expresscard slot on my relatively new laptop.
For reference, I've already had a discussion with RME on their forum:
RME User Forum / Express card problems on a Dell XPS Studio 16
I'll say for a start that my work laptop (Latitude E6500) works fine, whereas my XPS doesn't.
So...
If I have my RME Expresscard installed before boot, it never gets recognised in Windows (64 bit Win 7 Home Premium). If I then remove and re-insert, Windows freezes. If I remove it, Windows unfreezes. If I shut-down Windows with the card inserted (presuming I haven't frozen Windows), the laptop won't actually turn off all the lights and properly stop until I remove the card.
If I start Windows with the card not-inserted, but then insert it once Windows has booted, I can then get it recognised and the system runs OK.
It appears there's something strange going on at BIOS level (currently using A10) at boot time.
RME are blaming the BIOS and claim there's little to no chance of getting Dell to address the issue. Lenovo apparently fixed this (possibly same issue) by adding an option to their BIOS to disable Expresscard power saving.
I've tried getting on the Dell forums to discuss, but despite support calls, I can't get access.
Which is why I'm hoping I might have more luck here!
There do seem to be a few gurus around here. With any luck, a passing Dell Rep might also spot this and possibly help out.
Any thoughts / ideas on the subject would be gratefully recieved.
Thanks!

I'll give this a bump just in case, but I guess this combi is a bit too far out of the usual.
