Just got an XPS 16 preloaded with Vista Home Premium SP1 from the Dell Outlet and generally I'm pleased. However, I noticed that when playing video files like wmv or mov, the video skips a few frames ever 4 or 5 seconds even though the audio doesn't seem to skip. Watching the space shuttle launch, it looks like the shuttle lurches forward by 50 feet every 4 or 5 seconds.

Any ideas? This happens with both Windows Media Player and Quicktime. Is it a video encoder issue? Video card? Something wrong with the mobo? How can I troubleshoot this?

Try first to do a clean Windows install. I have no problems with mine, the Dell preloaded stuff sometimes causes some problems. although you might lose some preloaded stuff

Thanks - looks like reinstalling Vista did the trick, video looks good. The Dell driver utility could be better.
