    Nice information! Thanks, Jay....

Look's like you can order, also!

I went in and added it to my cart, let the personal info go thru..and the Estimated Delivery date is 2/5 thru 2/10/09. And, my total for the 1640 would be $1,086.48 (inc. shipping/taxes).

    Cin ;) :)

That's one heck of a price...now I'm tempted to call Dell to see if they are willing to do a price match or will have to my XPS16 back cos of the unbalanced speakers and then get this from BB for way cheaper.

but if you buy from BB your fixes (warranty) will have to go through BB also (geeksquad) which is a pain...i know this because i bought an xps m1330 from best buy and the mobo died so i tried to call dell and they told me that they wont help me cause i bought the lappy from BB. So i sold the m1330 on craigslist and bought my m1530 from dell and have gotten excellent support.

I remember BB did the same thing upon release of the Gateway FX series ....I was all set to order thru Gateway with a 10% coupon (best deal at that time) and then a week later, the same FX debuted at BB for $300 less than the deal at G/W directly.

I ended up picking that up from BB but the cheap screen and the sub-par build quality made me return it. If this is an indication similar to the FX, then most likely BB is doing a promotion to see how well this laptop will sell....once they get enough interest, the prices will go back up. Same thing happened to the FX series.

It will be a nice option for all those that don't want to order directly from Dell, and that really like Best Buy :D

That would be nice Reward Zone added points, with the purchase!

One thing you might want to look into is if this hasn't been customized and cheapened somewhat for BB. For instance, I wouldn't be surprised if the backlit keyboard is not in place given the price being lower. This happened with the Studio line, they went up for a good deal at BB and there was no backlight for the keyboard which some people assumed it would have.

If they could get the RGB screen w/Blu-ray, I'd cancel my Dell order and buy form BB.

The SXPS 1640 from BB is one siiiik deal!!! Compared to the base config from Dell, it has Blueray and p8600, while being $200 dollars cheaper!!!

I am very very tempted to buy it right now!

In comparison, the 1340 deal is still sweet, but I noticed it does not have WLED display, and the graphics card is integrated 9400. So actually it has LESS value than the base config from dell (which has LED included).

    Hmmmmmm

I noticed neither of these have Bluetooth...but I think it should be easy to install on my own.

So far I see three things:
1 - No mention of back lit keyboard
2 - No mention of WLED screen
    3 - NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
Anyone see any other features missing? For $1000, it might just be worth it. My only concern is the WLED screen.

Hot Dog!! I was only looking at the 13 cause that was in my original budget ($1200 -1300). But for the same price ($999 BB) the 16 has BluRay and WLED. Is there any reason I shouldn't buy it now?

From the spec sheet, it says WLED
And if you go on dell.com, the studio1640 is only configured with 2 screens

Edge-to-Edge HD Widescreen 16.0 inch WLED LCD (1366x768) W/2.0 MP
Edge-to-Edge FullHD Widescreen 16.0 inch RGBLED LCD (1920x1080) W/2.0 MP

Resolution from BB shows its 1366 X 768, so im guessing its the normal WLED one.
Im gonna wait for BB to get some in store before jumping on this deal.

I was only looking at the XPS 13 before. On that spec sheet is only says:

Display Type WXGA widescreen with 1280 x 800 resolution

I later realized that XPS 16 is a much better deal. The only thing for me now is that I fly a lot and I would really prefer something smaller. I think I will end up getting the 13 inch.

I would also go with the 13" if purchasing thru BB, even though the 16" seem's to be the better deal. 13" a good size, nice and compact!

Let us know if you end up ordering!

He ordered on 2/1 when they first appeared on BB's site ~ before, they sold out and went on *back order* per se. So his ESD is legit.

I'm sure he was charged (a pre-auth), and will be charged when it's actually ready to ship! :D

the 16" is a really good deal with a lot of extras thrown in that the 13 doesn't have. the 13 weighs 5 pounds which isn't that light for a 13, so might as well suck it up and take the 16 lol.

Checked with bestbuy's corporate office, said estimate delivery date if i was to order now is anywhere from Feb 18 till March 3rd. It'll guarantee delivery before March 3rd.

Tempted to pick this up, but I'd have to unload my 7811FX 1st

    azianai,

thanks for fill us in. Did you ask about the 13, 16, or both?

I still don't know which one I want. I would like something smaller and I have a nice external monitor anyway. I don't need the blu-ray but for the same price, that is a nice feature to have. My main concern with the 13" from Best Buy is if it doesn't have the LED screen. What do you think?

    only asked about the 16"

What i'd do is call up your local BB jbd and see if they can run the SKU for the 13 on their RSS system. The 13 isn't listed as online only, so there's a good chance its coming into stores. Their RSS can show if they're getting any enroute.

I just ordered the Studio XPS 13" Laptop from Best Buy $1100 after tax and shipping. I checked the website this morning and it was no longer back ordered. My estimated arrival is 2/5 - 2/9. The specs are here:

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ps+13&lp=2&type=product&cp=1&id=1218036666917

I will post as soon as I receive it to let everyone know if anything has been "gimped" (back lit keyboard, LED Screen, etc. ???).

IF, I think it's a piece of sh*t, I will return it immediately or sell in on ebay.

btw yours is available in stores, so if you had a prob you can return to BB B&M stores.
the XPS1640 is online only, so we'd have to send it back to the online warehouse @_@

I have received the 1640 today. It came with a screen defect - in the middle of the screen there is a very large black dot, I think it is a piece of dust or something behind the glass/plastic whatever material that is before the actual LED.

However, the thing comes with backlit keyboard and everything. It even has bluetooth, which BB website did not say it did.

Other than the screen defect, I am absolutely in love with the laptop (I think I will go ask for an exchange or something...because it is really annoying especially for a brand new high-end laptop!!!)The keyboard does take getting used to, it is somewhat flat...

For the 13" Studio XPS Dell's website says the following:
2.0MP Integrated Webcam (with CCFL display)
1.3MP Integrated Webcam (with WLED display)

Best buy does not specify which display the 13 comes with ($999) however, it does say 2.0MP camera. Therefore I'm guessing it's CCFL. Oh well. Mine should be here next week. I think I can live with it.

Does anyone think this a terrible loss? How do the two different displays compare?

I know the WLED display is thinner than the CCFL dislplay. As well, I think that you get a little more battery life too, but not too sure about that.
