Just wondering if anyone has any news about possible XPS 14 supply issues. I'm currently waiting delivery of XPS14, but have an Estimated Delivery Date of 11 March!!!

Is this normal at the moment? I'm from Australia and didn't select the tv tuner, but have the backlit keyboard. But I was told today that the keyboard is in stock and shouldn't be a problem.

Are Dell now in the habit of exagerating delivery times or is this delay a normal part of purchasing an xps laptop?

    Thanks Maxiiboii

Obviously the good old days are gone when Dell spoke plainly...now I'm hoping there aren't any hitches or delays...otherwise I'll be the only teacher at my school with an ancient laptop (except the unlucky schmucks using Department supplied pieces of rubbish!)

I ordered on Jan. With a EDD of 11 March the specs I ordered will be obsolete by the time i get it...I so hope the EDD is wrong, otherwise I'll have to cancel and reorder.

The irony is that the laptop bag is at the courier after a failed delivery yesterday. Who would think the laptop bag would arrive BEFORE the laptop?

According to Dell Order Status it is 'Work In Progress' and when I called it referred to my order 'Being Built'. I think I'll wait a day or two more and then ring to straighten out the EDD

It seems XPS systems in Australia now take up to 20 days...if you trust what Dell says when you ring them...

So much for the 15 day delivery stated clearly all over their website...oh dear Dell has really dropped the ball...

...so I've got to learn how to wait...

I ordered my Dell XPS 15 on December 24, it arrived on January 7 with everything included. It would have come earlier if it hadn't been for all those public holidays. They originally gave me a date of 4 February, so it came lightning fast.

    I am in Newcastle, Australia

    Thanks newcastleboy

I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one to receive an exaggerated EDD - a little alarming when the last two laptops I've ordered were quoted a more reasonable EDD and arrived promptly - maybe Dell has changed their approach to EDD in light of delays with tv tuners and backlit keyboards.

Really I've got nothing to complain about considering all else that is going on ...deliberately lit bushfires and nightmare floods do help when considering possible delay in delivery!

I don't know if it effects the AU customers but right now I'm getting a replacement for my XPS 14 that a tech damaged, it's been 3 weeks now and they still don't have all of the parts they need so there is a major shortage on parts for the 14 in the US on certain configurations.

DaneGRClose - I hope you're close to getting your laptop back.

Dell has stuffed up the supply of their keyboards for the xps 14 - according to Dell Australia they don't have any at the moment, backlit or otherwise. Approximately a 8 week delay on either keyboard.

...so I hope you're not waiting on a keyboard

I Ordered the XPS 17 in October 2010 and was told it would be delivered in 14days. 14 days later nothing had arrived. Called Dell and they said it would be one more week. One week later nothing had arrived. Called Dell they said they had a problem with the Intergrated TV Tuner and that if I would accept an external device that Delivery would be Gauranteed before Christmas 2010...so I did. Christmas came around and suprise suprise no laptop. Called Dell they recommended me to Cancel the order completely for a full refund as they could not communicate a delivery date. The thing which really boils my blood is that they had $2400 of mine just sitting in their accounts for over two months...0 compensation 0 service Dell really is Hell!!

I think it will dbe to start upgrading to SB, so the delay. What's more, in several countries, the XPS 14 and not offered as an option...

I ordered my xps14 on Jan. 15, during the signature event. Estimated date was Feb. 9 and I though it was just over exaggerated. But it turns out I really had to wait that long to get it, it just shipped 2days ago and the estimated delivery day now is Feb. 7.

Dell has a habit of overstating delivery dates for the expectation view point. If the date is farther out but it arrives sooner than the date posted the customer typically sees it as a good thing. If the date is closer but later gets delayed then the customer will see it as a bad thing. My laptop was dated for a month farther out than it's actual arrival date. Oh and I also got the bag before the laptop.

I think they do it to try to account for potential delays.

For those of you who are wondering about the XPS 14, I called Dell and they told me they have a shortage on some components and they can't give me an estimate whether my laptop will be delivered or not...
