My XPS M1530 worked fine for two years until something weird happened today. I got back home and turned on my laptop, it turns on with the usual array or LED lights, CD check sound, harddrive whirr, but nothing shows up on the screen. I turn off the laptop by pressing the power button, then turned it on again, but same problem. I take out the battery and put it back in, but same problem. I take out the battery and just use the direct charger but same problem. I disconnected the battery and the charger, held the power button for half a minute, then plugged in charger and tried again, but same problem. I used a different charger that works but same problem. So then I read something about that my problem might be GPU related? or DC related. I read that the 8600 GPU's had problems and that some of them were fixed by heating up the thermal paste with heat...so I took apart my laptop and here's what it looks like

Try booting with an external monitor... if you can get a picture to show up, chances are the problem isn't GPU-related. Even if it a GPU problem, the chip itself isn't going to look any different, though.

Yeah, it's probably hosed then. You can try leaving it on and seeing if you can hear the Windows startup sounds, but I'm pretty sure the GPU's dead. Even if it's not, it looks like you'll need a board replacement anyway.
