    Can the backlit keyboard light on the XPS be turned on and off or is the light something thats always on? thanks

    You can turn it off, and it has a dim setting as well.

    Yes, the FN+F6 key is the keyboard backlight control. The settings are:

    High
    Low
    Off

    It is a very nice keyboard in my opinion.
