I left CoreTemp and HWMonitor running while playing Left 4 Dead 2 for a couple of hours yesterday and the temperatures were pretty consistent with both programs.

The thing that worries me is that the graphics card (445m) went up to a max of 85 degrees celcius and so did core 0 of the 740QM processor with all the rest being just over 80 as well.

Is this normal or what should I do?

That's expected from this laptop. If temps bother you, get a notebook cooler like the NZXT Cryo.
